PITCH REPORT - Ed Rainsford is pitchside. He says that the pitch played well on the opening day, and 11 wickets fell. Athar Ali Khan joins him and says that there is still a lot of grass covering, and the surface still has a lot to offer. Says that the Bangladesh bowlers need to be better with their lines and lengths. Athar was surprised with Taijul Islam getting some turn and thinks that the spinners will have a part to play. Ed also observes a few indentations in the middle of the pitch and believes that the surface will dry out as we go ahead.
A quick chat - Brad Evans has caught up with Ed Rainsford. Mentions that it was a great day for Zimbabwe. He feels the ball moved a little more during the second session, and the bowlers looked after it well. He praises Newman Nyamhuri for running in hard and hitting the deck, while adding that the rest of the attack also played their part. Evans reveals that a conversation with Jasprit Bumrah during the T20 World Cup inspired him to work on his bowling. On the batting front, he credits the openers for laying a solid foundation and says the dressing room is willing on Innocent Kaia to reach three figures. Shares that their focus is simply on batting once and batting big.
A response is needed - Bangladesh, meanwhile, will be left wondering what might have been after allowing a promising position to slip away. Mominul Haque's classy half-century had laid the platform for a much bigger first-innings total, but they failed to capitalise as the innings unravelled. With the ball, Khaled Ahmed eventually broke the opening stand on 89, and Bangladesh created a couple of opportunities, but they were unable to build any sustained pressure on the hosts. They will need a much-improved effort with the ball on Day 2 to stop Zimbabwe from turning their advantage into a commanding first-innings lead. Stay tuned as the first ball on Day 2 is not far away.

Taijul offers hope - For all the damage Zimbabwe's seamers inflicted earlier in the day, Bangladesh's most threatening bowler turned out to be a spinner. Taijul Islam looked the pick of the attack, extracting encouraging grip and turn from a surface that appears to have something in it for everyone. In fact, Brendan Taylor nearly fell to Taijul, but the return catch was dropped by him. That is an interesting sign for Bangladesh heading into Day 2. While the fast bowlers search for consistency, Taijul could be the go-to bowler for them. If this pitch continues to offer purchase, he could well become Bangladesh's biggest weapon.
Wayward with the ball - Bangladesh would have expected their bowlers to apply pressure on a helpful surface just like Zimbabwe did, but that plan never quite materialised. Instead, Zimbabwe's openers batted at a steady pace, racing to 89 runs off just 98 balls and effectively cornered the Tigers. That early surge pushed Bangladesh off track, forcing them to rethink their lengths and lines under pressure. The only breakthrough came with the dismissal of Ben Curran, but Innocent Kaia and Brendan Taylor ensured there were no further alarms. The pair batted through the remainder of the day with composure, safely guiding Zimbabwe to Stumps and trimming the deficit to just four runs.
Shocker for Bangladesh - The afternoon session turned into utter mayhem for Bangladesh, as Zimbabwe's pacers finally found their rhythm and made the most of the conditions on offer. After a relatively quiet morning, the visitors came out sharper, more disciplined, and far more effective with the ball, flipping the session firmly in their favour. Newman Nyamhuri stood out as the pick of the bowlers, finishing with a fine four-wicket haul, while Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, and Richard Ngarava complemented him superbly.
