West Indies beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs
See you for the second Test - That wraps up our coverage of an absolute clinical opening Test match, with the West Indies holding a 1-0 series lead. But the cricket keeps coming, folks. The battle resumes for the crucial Second Test this coming Friday, July 3rd, with the first ball scheduled for 2 pm GMT. Make sure to tune in early as we bring you all the pre-match build-up, pitch reports, and team news before the action gets underway. Sri Lanka will be desperate to fight back, while the Windies will look to seal the series, so you won't want to miss a single delivery. Until then, thank you for your company throughout these four days. Take care, and cheers!
The skipper of West Indies - Roston Chase says that he is happy to win as the captain of the team. He reckons that it is a dream come true for him. He further says that Amir Jangoo's double hundred and Kemar Roach getting the 300 Test wickets satisfied him a lot. He adds that the important thing in the Test is to stay patient and not get overconfident. He ends by saying that the wicket had a lot for the bowlers, and they have quality pacers on their side.
The captain of Sri Lanka - Dhananjaya de Silva says that in the first innings, they had enough runs, but Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase took the game away from them. He adds that it was difficult to bat in the second innings as the ball kept low. Also, they were good for the first two days, but one injury took the game away from them. He reckons that Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase were sensational, and he ends by saying that he is happy with his century, but the result didn't go their way.
Player of the Match - Amir Jangoo is the Player of the Match for his knock of 233 runs in 373 balls. He starts off saying that he is feeling really great, not only because he got his double century, but also because they got the crucial win. About the most satisfying thing about this Test match, he says that the win was the one thing, and he is pleased that they got it, as it was very important for the WC title. About his mindset, he says that he is always ready to perform for his team as he filled in the spot of injured Shai Hope. Ends up saying that he is always disciplined and serious with his profession, and he is happy that he could contribute something to the team.
Presentations coming up...
300 Test wickets for Kemar Roach - Kemar Roach receives a jersey numbered 300 for reaching that milestone. He says that he is very happy to achieve the milestone. He gives the credit to all his teammates, but he especially calls out Denis Byam's name, their physiotherapist, who had countless discussions with Roach as he just got back from an injury. He then says that his mother would be watching him on the television and would be super proud, and so would his kids. On being asked about his future plans, he says that he would like to enjoy this moment and throw a party for his teammates and then keep on grinding as he does regularly.
Windies reign supreme - The post-lunch session was a mere formality. Roach returned immediately to dismiss the lone warrior Chandimal for 43, and the tail folded meekly shortly after, courtesy of Kemar Roach. He ended up with 4 wickets in that innings. Also, Kemar Roach completed 300 test wickets for the West Indies, and he became the fifth West Indies bowler to reach that milestone. It was a complete performance from the Windies, ruthless with the bat and relentless with the ball. The visitors will have plenty of searching questions to answer before the next game, but tonight, the Caribbean side celebrates a thoroughly deserved and emphatic victory.
The Pace strikes - Trailing by a mountain of 318 runs, Sri Lanka’s second innings quickly turned into a nightmare under the intense pressure of the Caribbean pace attack. Kemar Roach set the tone early on Day 4, while Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph ripped through the top order, leaving the visitors reeling at 81 for 6 by lunch. Dinesh Chandimal showed grit and fought hard, but he lacked any substantial support from the other end.
The Jangoo and Chase show - When West Indies came out to bat, they completely took the game away from the visitors. Amir Jangoo played a career-defining knock, first getting his maiden half-century in Test cricket and then converting it to his maiden century before putting up a spectacular 233. Jangoo found a perfect partner in skipper Roston Chase, who fell agonizingly short of his own double-ton on 194. Together, they piled on the agony, driving the Windies to a mammoth 626 for 9 declared, despite a fighting five-wicket haul from Sri Lanka's Milan Rathnayake.
First Innings spark - The match began with a good touch as Sri Lanka registered a big score on Day 1. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva led from the front with a brilliant 120, well-supported by Dinesh Chandimal’s gritty 54. However, Justin Greaves’ 3 for 39 helped bundle the visitors out for 308. Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph picked up two wickets each in that innings. It was a respectable score by Sri Lanka, but one that would soon prove to be vastly inadequate.
A comprehensive win for the Windies - It’s all over. A truly dominant performance from the West Indies as they wrap up a massive victory by an innings and 217 runs. Sri Lanka’s resistance completely evaporated in the second session of Day 4, with the final wickets tumbling in quick succession. The hosts take a 1-0 lead in the series, laying down a serious marker with a clinical, all-round display.

Jayden Seales To Lahiru Kumara OUT!
OUT! CASTLED! That will be like hammering the final nail on the coffin. Jayden Seales has done the last part for bagging his third wicket of the innings and with that, West Indies beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs. Seales fires it fuller, pitching it just outside off and angling in sharply. Lahiru Kumara makes a bit room and clears his front foot to swat it across the line, but misses the shot completely. The ball misses the inside edge with a huge gap and hits the leg stump.

Kemar Roach To Asitha Fernando OUT!
OUT! BOWLED'EM! That's an exceptional delivery from Kemar Roach and with that wicket, all his teammates are jumping on him, patting his back and head, as he gets his 300th wicket in Test cricket. Roach comes from wide off the crease and angling in, sharply into the stumps, pitching it outside off. Asitha Fernando looks to go for a wild swing across the line, but gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball rattles into the stumps. What a moment for Kemar Roach. Just one wicket to win for West Indies. Can he get his five-fer as well?

Kemar Roach To Milan Rathnayaka OUT!
OUT! LBW! The wickets are falling one after the other, and Kemar Roach has got his third wicket of the inning now. He delivers it fuller, pitching it on off and shaping in a shade. Milan Rathnayaka, with no footwork, looks to flick it, but plays the shot pretty well. The ball hits the front pad and the Windies let out a huge roar to appeal. The umpire agrees and raises the finger. Rathnayaka takes a review. The UltraEdge shows no bat involvement and the Ball Tracking shows that the wickets hitting the leg stump is umpire's call. The on-field decision stands on. West Indies are just two wickets away from the win.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! That's the wicket West Indies were looking for and it's Roach who gets the set batter. Back of a length, just outside off, nipping it away from the batter. Dinesh Chandimal rocks back and attempts to punch it through cover with an angled bat, but catches the outside edge. The ball flies toward the first slip, where John Campbell tries to reverse scoop the catch at the front of his face, but fails to grasp it with total control. We are back for the action to resume after the Lunch break. Dinesh Chandimal will be looking forward to carry forward the momentum and keep the scoreboard ticking slowly. Sonal Dinusha just needs to hold his wicket. Jayden Seales will be starting after the break. Let's play.
... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...
The Lankans need a saviour - After the fall of the fifth wicket, Alzarri Joseph joins the party as well, picking a wicket, eliminating Kesal Mendis. Despite of losing all these wickets, Danish Chandimal is the sole warrior from the Lankan camp who protected the wicket from one end and right now he is at 40 runs not out. From here on, the plan is simple but hard to execute for the visitors. They have first bat out the entire afternoon session without losing a single wicket and then carry forward the momentum till the end of the Day. But they will know it very well that the Windies' bowlers won't sit back. They will come back harder after the Lunch Break, but the Lankans have no other option but to soak that pressure. So take a break and join us around 4.40 pm GMT to not miss any action match-up.
Quick chat - Shamar Joseph says that they started really well and they had a discussion about the first innings, and they planned well. He adds that the wicket is a bit on the lower side, so they are bowling wicket to wicket. He reckons that they are sticking to the basics and ends by saying that they are happy with where they are.
The Windies are cruising away - The Windies started their day exceptionally well, finding two wickets in the first two overs of the Day. It was Kemar Roach to get the first, and Jayden Seales to get the second. However, Lankans found a partnership between Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis, which had a steady start but failed to convert. Shamar Joseph is the man who broke the 27-run partnership, and then he got another wicket, finding the dismissal of the Lankan skipper, who was also the centurion for their side from Sri Lanka's first inning.
Lunch on Day 4 - Session summary - 66 runs, 22 overs and 5 wickets. The session has belonged to the host, West Indies, and it's not a breaking news anymore. The way the bowling unit showed their resilience and aggressiveness on the lines and lengths were nothing short of impeccable. They have dominated the third Day and made sure they have a phenomenal start to Day 4.

UPDATE - 3.44 pm GMT - Just when the Windies were cruising through, the clouds have opened to pour down the showers. It was a bit cloudy from the morning itself, but as the breeze was too strong, we were hoping that it would clear the sky, but the rain gods had something else in their plan. Oh, hang on a minute! The players walked off the field, and the groundsmen started to cover the track, but out of nowhere, the sun started to shine bright, and the drizzle stopped. The groundsmen have now removed the covers, and the players are once again taking over the field. We are all set to continue.

DRINKS BREAK! Just before the match, the assistant West Indies coach said that he would like to get a couple of wickets in the morning session to set the tone for the day, but little did he know that his side would have already bagged three wickets by the end of the first hour of the play. Sri Lanka are not looking in a great position as they lost their four batters and still trail by 272 runs. The skipper, Dhananjaya de Silva, walks up as the new batter and the Lankans will hope to witness another of his exceptional innings.

Shamar Joseph To Kamindu Mendis OUT!
OUT! TIMBER! The line and length of that delivery is pure perfect. Pitching it fuller, just outside off and angling in. Kamindu Mendis lunges but looks to shoulder-arm at it, but the ball is too close to the stumps to leave. The ball pitches on the deck and shapes in toward the off stump. Mendis tries to use his back leg to cover the stumps, but it's too late as the ball rattles the off stump by that time. Sri Lanka are 46 for 4, trailing by 272 runs.

We are back for the action on Day 4! The umpires walk out to the middle, followed by the players of West Indies with the hunger of taking wickets. The nightwatchman, Kasun Rajitha, along with Nishan Madushka will resume the inning for Lankan. Kemar Roach has the new ball in hand. Here we go...
PITCH REPORT - Samuel Badree is near the pitchside. He starts off saying the weather is looking very good. However, it's a bit cloudy, and there's a lot of breeze going across the ground. About the track, he said that the pitch is covered with brown grass, but notes that the cracks are opening up. Ravi Rampaul, West Indies' assistant coach, joins and says that they had a good batting inning on this pitch. He emphasizes the cracks opening, which means the spinners will get some turn. About the pacers, the bowlers have been asked to go fuller and keep their line just around off, to find some swing on the ball.
An epic battle of attrition awaits - The stage is beautifully set for a classic day of red-ball cricket. Sri Lanka has a mountain to climb to rescue themselves from this position, while the West Indies are just nine wickets away from wrapping up a dominant victory. Will we see a heroic, long-drawn fightback from the visitors, or will the hosts prove to be too clinical on a wearing pitch? We shall find out...
West Indies hunts for a clinical finish - The West Indies camp will be absolutely buzzing with confidence as they take the field. After Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase rewrote the record books with their magnificent centuries, the home side holds all the aces. Jayden Seales has already given them the perfect start by removing Pathum Nissanka late on Day 3. The strategy for the Caribbean bowlers today will be to stay relentless, attack the stumps early with the moving ball, and use the developing cracks on this Day 4 pitch to suffocate the scoring rate.
Sri Lanka needs a historic rescue act - For Sri Lanka, the blueprint for today is simple but incredibly difficult, it is all about pure survival. Their bowling unit struggled yesterday with inconsistent lengths and defensive fields, which allowed the game to slip away. Today, the batting lineup must learn from those tough periods. Every single batter needs to display extreme discipline, leave the ball well outside the off stump, and focus entirely on batting out sessions. Nishan Madushka and the nightwatchman Kasun Rajitha must survive the tricky opening hour to give the rest of the team a fighting chance to save this match.
A thrilling morning ahead in paradise - A very warm welcome to cricket fans everywhere as we get ready for Day 4 of this hard-fought battle. The West Indies have put themselves in complete command of this game after a spectacular performance over the last three days. Sri Lanka faces a massive uphill task after finishing yesterday evening at 15 for 1. They are still trailing by a huge margin of 303 runs, setting up a day where patience and grit will determine everything.
... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...
The declaration -  With the lead pushed to a massive 81 runs, the West Indies finally called time on their marathon innings, declaring at a mammoth 626. After declaring, we all thought that on this batting wicket, Sri Lankan openers could easily walk off the field with no hiccups, but little did we know that there was still drama left. Jayden Seales picked up a wicket in his first delivery and eliminated Pathum Nissanka. Kasun Rajitha walked up as a nightwatchman and did his job well to protect his wicket till the end of the Stumps. It has been a completely dominant day of Test cricket for the hosts, who now hold all the cards heading into Day 4. Join us at on Sunday, 28th June at 2 pm GMT to catch all the action of Day 4. Cheers!
A record-breaking stand - The final session of Day 3 will forever be etched in cricket history. The relentless partnership between Jangoo and Chase finally came to an end, but not before they stitched together a colossal 401 runs. This incredible feat officially broke the record for the highest-ever 6th-wicket partnership in Test cricket history! The marathon knock concluded when Jangoo was finally dismissed for a magnificent 233 runs, walking off to a massive standing ovation. However, after finding the breakthrough, Sri Lanka kept on hitting wickets. First, they got Alzarri Joseph, then they got the opposition's skipper, Roston Chase, who missed his double-century by just six runs short. After losing the eighth wicket, the Windies decided to declare the innings. Milan Rathnayaka was the pick of the bowlers from the Lankans camp, with a five-fer, which is his first one in Test cricket, with his personal best figures of 35.5-8-124-5. Asitha Fernando and Sonal Dinusha both bagged a double by the end of the innings.
The afternoon grind - The afternoon session was a carbon copy of the first as the Windies continued to milk the bowling with absolute ease. Sri Lanka turned to spin from both ends and deployed highly defensive fields, but Chase showed immaculate control to bring up a fine hundred. At the other end, Jangoo crossed the 150-run mark. Sri Lanka's lone moment of hope, a spilled catch at first slip, mattered little as the bowler had overstepped for a no-ball anyway, allowing the Windies to cruise to a commanding 492/5 by Tea.
A flawless morning - West Indies started the crucial 'moving day' with extreme caution. However, once Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase settled in, they ruthlessly punished a wayward Sri Lankan bowling attack. Jangoo brought up a magical maiden Test century, while Chase notched his 12th Test fifty. The pair survived the entire 26-over session without losing a single wicket, guiding the hosts to a 48-run lead at Lunch and firmly tilting the match in their favor.

Oh, certainly a chance to catch it, but it's way too tough than it looks. Shaping in, on a good length, around middle. Nishan Madushka rolls his wrists to flick it. The ball flies flat and low toward the short leg fielder, Amir Jangoo, who stays low but fails to catch it.

Jayden Seales To Pathum Nissanka OUT!
OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Oh... that's a dream start from Jayden Seales. It's just what the Windies were hoping for, a wicket. Seales angles it in beautifully, on the fifth stump, but swings it a shade away. Pathum Nissanka gets on his front foot to block it down, but it just kisses the outside edge, before Joshua Da Silva shuffles to his right and gloves it in. Sri Lanka are 8 for 1.
Jayden Seales will bowl from the other end.
