For his match-saving ton, Nkrumah Bonner has been named the Man of the Match. That is it from this game! Both sides seemed to have had the game in their bag at one stage or the other but over the course of 5 days, there was nothing to separate the two sides. All to play now in the second and final Test of the series. The last game of the series begins on Monday, 29th March. The action will begin at 1000 local (1400 GMT). We hope to see you then. West Indies were down and out but managed to claw things back with the ball in the final session of Day 4. 3 wickets each for Cornwall and Roach. First they managed to bowl out Sri Lanka. The hosts then did not start off well with the bat as they lost Campbell early. Bonner and Brathwaite first saw off Day 4 without further damage. Though the skipper departed in the first session of the final day. Bonner stuck like glue. He built a vital partnership with Mayers and then a game-saving one with Holder. The Jamaican showed his caliber and scored his maiden ton at a crucial time. That was good enough for the hosts to save the game. Sri Lanka toiled hard but there was nothing on the wicket though.
Sri Lanka then proceeded to win the days 3 and 4 as first on the back of Lakmal's 5-fer they kept West Indies at bay and then put up a chalk and cheese performance with the bat as compared to the first innings. The visitors were a completely different side with the bat in the second innings. A brilliant century on debut from Pathum Nissanka was the star of the show. Dickwella and Oshada Fernando both got dismissed in the 90s with the former missing out on his maiden Test ton by 4 runs. That solid show saw them put on a huge total of 476.
A quick summary of the game then! West Indies won the toss and put the tourists in to bat. The hosts dominated the first 2 days of the Test as they first bundled out Sri Lanka for 169 on the back of a 5-fer from Jason Holder and 3-fer from Roach. The hosts then took a lead of 102. It was not an easy task for them with the bat in the first innings as few players got starts but could not convert it. A solid stand between Rahkeem Cornwall and Joshua Da Silva ensured a solid lead. With the former scoring his maiden Test fifty.
The players are shaking hands now and that will be the end of this Test. A fantastic game of Test cricket. A game that kept going from one way to another but in the end, a draw seems to be a fair result as both sides did not deserve to lose as there was nothing to separate them at the end of a solid 5 days of Test cricket.

The pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Nkrummah Bonner showed great patience and resilience. The duo were calm in their approach but also taking runs when they were on offer. That resistance was broken by Lasith Embuldeniya around 25 minutes before the break. Since then the visitors have been very tight and disciplined. Credit to Bonner and Mayers too as they too have showed patience in that period and managed to see off the session without any further damage. Bonner has been brilliant reaching his fifty as well.

The star of the day, Pathum Nissanka is caught for a chat. Nissanka says that that he is not aware of the records but he is happy to have performed for his team. Adds that the discussion was to take the game with the bat as long as deep as possible. States that he feels that if the bowlers bowl it in the right areas, they have a good chance to bowl West Indies out.
It was a tough day for West Indies. They though will be happy that they managed to see off the day with 9 wickets still in hand. The bowlers had to toil hard in the first two sessions but the hosts crawled their way back in the final session of the day. They are still chasing the tails of this game but they will be looking at their recent magnificent chase at Chattogram and would be looking to repeat the feat and taking a lot of inspiration from that very chase. They have a lot of batting to come and if the past has taught us one thing, it is to never discount West Indies.
The visitors showed their mettle with the bat. Though they lost the plot with the bat in the first half of the evening session, they managed to post a superb total of 476. That came on the back of a tremendous partnership between Nissanka and Dickwella. The pair added a mammoth 179-run stand with the debutant scoring a century and Dickwella agonizingly missing out on his maiden ton by 4 runs. Wickets fell like nine pins in the last session but the tourists had got enough on the board by then. Sri Lanka then managed to do some damage with the ball too. Though they would have liked at least one more, they will be happy with the fact that they did see the back of John Campbell.
Fantastic day of Test cricket and all three results are possible but without a shadow of a doubt, the day belonged to Pathum Nissanka, Niroshan Dickwella, and Sri Lanka. West Indies looked down and out but they have clawed their way back in this and ensured that we have an enthralling Day 5!
