Inn Break
Right then. That ends the series and the tour. New Zealand will take yet another good earnings from this one, losing the first and final matches of the tour - the opening Test and the final T20I. In between, they won a Test and 2 T20Is, so overall, it has been a good outing for them. The Lankans too, will not mind the series too much, trusting their young guys to deliver and they did. Only consistency is an issue. Can they build on this learning and be a bit more consistent in future? Only time will tell. For now, we take a break and we shall be back when the next series arrives. You can enjoy the Ashes and the Bangladesh-Afghanistan contests till then. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious New Zealand captain, Tim Southee, says that he was captaining a young side and it fell under pressure in this game. Praises Sri Lanka but is happy to have won the series overall. On Malinga, Southee calls him a class bowler and admits that there was nothing much any batsman could do. On the last-wicket stand threatening to spoil Malinga's party, Southee says that it was nice to have some fun but then credits Sri Lanka for keeping it tight. On the series and tour overall, Tim says that he enjoyed captaining this side, enjoyed the reception by the Lankans and also adds that there was plenty to learn from.
Now, Malinga is called for a chat. Seems a little disappointed on the series result but stresses that the Lankans always tried their best. However, it did not come nicely in the first two games but here it came. Dedicates this to the fans in the stadium and everywhere else. On his 4-ball wicket saga, Malinga says that he just kept it simple, targetting the stumps. On captaincy and leading the bowling pressures, Lasith says that there is no such pressure and he only wants to share his experience with the younger members and give them as much opportunity as he can, supporting everyone. Thanks the New Zealand Cricket Board and players for agreeing to come to tour in spite of the off-field incidents. Then, thanks the supporters for believing in the team and urges them to continue being with his side.
TIM SOUTHEE HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE SERIES.
LASITH MALINGA HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH.
Time for the presentation now...
Roshan Abeysinghe takes the interview of Kusal Perera. The latter feels that they did tremdously well to win the game. Calls Malinga a legend. Says he uses the pace well and bowls superb line and length. On being asked about his role in the Malinga hat-trick, prompting his skipper to take the LBW review against Hamish Rutherford, Kusal says that he sees everything from behind the wickets and knows what is going to come from Malinga's hand. Adds that according to him, Rutherford looked to be plumb and hence he asked his skipper to go for the review.
An innings which has only 3 batsmen in double figures, 8 in single digits and 4 of those being one-ballers, does not have much to say. It was perhaps beginning to be a night to remember as the Kiwis inched towards a series whitewash, but in the span of 30 minutes, it has become a night to forget for the visiting side.
That over - 0, 0, W, W, W, W - literally broke the back of the Kiwis and they could never recover after that. Malinga then came back to pick up his fifth wicket to end with his best figures in T20Is. His first wicket in this game was also his 100th in this format. The other bowlers were barely required but Akila Dananjaya impressed with a couple of scalps.
A drubbing. Victory by 37 runs after making just 125. JUST. Not many would have given Sri Lanka a chance at the halfway stage but after Slinga Malinga's second over, no one gave New Zealand any more chance.

Lakshan Sandakan To Seth Rance OUT!
OUT! Game over! What a terrific bowling effort from the hosts. A flighted ball on middle, Rance looks to sweep but fails to get bat on ball. He is hit flush on the pads. The Lankans appeal and the umpire agrees to end the New Zealand innings. Rance looks for a review but then he is informed that there is none left for New Zealand. Would not have mattered. Hawk Eye shows the impact to be umpire's call, around off and clipping the off stump, again, on umpire's call. The 36-run stand would've given the Lankan fans some worry. Rance should've tried to negotiate the ball and get Southee on strike but he went for the sweep to confirm the eventual.

NOT OUT! The verdict arrives, finally. That looked close but the back leg is down in time. Full ball, outside off, Southee looked to reverse sweep but couldn't get bat on it. Kusal Perera collected and whipped off the bails and appealed. It was referred upstairs but replays confirmed that Southee was safe.
Appeal for Stumping taken to the third umpire. The umpire is taking a lot of time in making the decision.

Wanindu Hasaranga To Todd Astle OUT!
OUT! Hasaranga strikes for Sri Lanka now. Just a wicket away from a win. This is a fullish ball, Astle wants to sweep it fine down the leg side but can't get bat on the ball. He is wrapped on the pads. Hasaranga appeals along with the entire stadium. The umpire agrees. Astle wants the third umpire to have a look at it but only for the sake of it. Ultra Edge shows no bat. The Hawk Eye shows that this is going to topple the middle stump which means Astle will have to walk back.
Astle has been adjudged LBW! He takes the review though. Looks plumb, if no inside edge. Nothing on the Ultra Edge as the ball goes past the bat. Hawk Eye shows three reds. Wicket number 9 goes.

Akila Dananjaya To Mitchell Santner OUT!
OUT! STUMPED! The foot is behind the line and this is the third wicket of the over. Madness in Pallekele. We are not even halfway through the innings and 80 percent of the team is in the hut. The googly, outside off, Santner looks to run it down to third man but misses. Now, that shot makes him drag his foot outside the crease and Kusal Perera is quick as lightning to whip the bails off. Perera is running towards the bowler in celebration even as the square leg umpire refers it upstairs. Replays show that the foot is out of the crease.
Stumping appeal. Kusal Perera is flying and confident! Is Santner gone? Replays show that the foot is outside!

OUT! BOWLED! Again, a 2-in-2 situation for Sri Lanka. Only this time, the bowler is not on a hat-trick. The leg spinner outside off, Kuggeleijn lunges to defend but the ball hits his elbow and goes onto the ground. Then, it rolls back, hits the pads and trickles onto the stumps!
Scott Kuggeleijn walks in at number 8, replacing Daryl Mitchell.

W
Akila Dananjaya To Daryl Mitchell OUT!
OUT! Now a run out and Mitchell can not believe it. This is a fullish ball on middle, Mitchell works it towards mid-wicket and wants a couple straight away. There was never a couple as the fielder hared at the ball. It was a rocket throw from Wanindu Hasaranga from the deep mid-wicket position for Perera who tries to break the stumps. However, while doing so, he loses control of the ball. It is referred upstairs and replays show that the ball indeed popped out of Perera's gloves and his gloves did hit the stumps, but in between these two actions, the ball deflected onto the stumps. And Mitchell is found short of his crease. This is going to end way too early it seems.
And we have a run out appeal on the first ball! Mitchell is unsure. He is on the ground. Kusal Perera has lost control of the ball, as per the replays. And then hit the stumps with his gloves. But before the gloves can hit the stumps, the ball deflects onto the sticks!
Akila Dananjaya is back. 3-0-25-0 so far.

OUT! Malinga... Malinga... Four in four for him. This man is just out of the world. He is making a mockery of this Kiwi batting line-up. Ross Taylor is out of here now. This time a fullish ball to the new man. The ball lands and just shapes a hint away from the push of Taylor. He can't get bat on ball and his hit on the pads. Malinga appeals along with the crowd. OUT! Malinga you champion. Hat-trick number two for him in T20I. He is on fire. And the Kiwis can do nothing about him. What a ripper from Malinga again. Another inswinging yorker. De Grandhomme is late to bring his down again. The ball goes onto disturb the timbers once again. They are checking for the front foot no ball and it is a very close call. However, the third umpire deems it in the favor of the bowler this time as Malinga breathes a sigh of a relief. What a legend!

Lasith Malinga To Hamish Rutherford OUT!
OUT! Two in two for Malinga. A duck for Rutherford on return. On the pads this time on a fullish length. The new batter, Rutherford goes for a flick but he is very late on the stroke. The ball swings in and goes to hit the pads hard as the Lankans make a loud appeal. The umpire does not agree but Malinga wants the third umpire to have a look at it. The Ultra Edge shows no bat. The Hawk Eye rolls in and it shows that it was hitting the leg stump. The umpire will have to change his decision here and a great review from the Lankan skipper.
