New Zealand trail by 181 runs
That's a wrap on Day 1! The Kiwis have dominated proceedings, bowling out the West Indies for 205 and heading into the break without losing a wicket. A brilliant day for New Zealand, and the momentum is certainly with them. Looking forward to seeing what Day 2 brings. The action resumes at 10 pm GMT (previous day), with the buildup starting an hour earlier. Thanks for tuning in, cheers!
New Zealand pacer Michael Rae shared his thoughts on his impressive debut performance, revealing that he had received the news of his potential inclusion just a couple of days ago, and the past few days had been surreal for him. He expressed his excitement to have taken his first wicket in Test format and acknowledged that he had learned a thing or two during the day, adjusting his game at the right time to bag a few wickets, and was thrilled to have pulled one back and caught the edge, with Daryl taking it safely. Rae attributed his success to his pace, stating that he is a bit quicker than many, which gave him confidence, and praised the West Indies batters, saying they are excellent cricketers who would punish any mistakes. He lauded his fellow bowlers, Jacob Duffy, and Zakary Foulkes, who had bowled beautifully but were unlucky to not get many wickets, and felt that bowling out the West Indies on the first day and getting to bat on the same day was a good feeling, crediting Tom Latham for his honest and consistent messaging, which helped the team reap rewards in the last session.
In reply to the West Indies' first innings total, the Kiwis' openers, Tom Latham and Devon Conway, got off to a solid start, putting on 24 runs together in 9 overs without giving the Windies' bowlers much to celebrate. They're looking comfortable at the crease, and if they can continue to build on this foundation, the Kiwis could be in a great position. A solid opening partnership will be crucial, and if they can get it right, it could set the tone for the rest of the innings.
The injury to Blair Tickner will be a major concern for the Kiwis. Blair Tickner probably dislocated his shoulder while trying to save runs at fine leg is a significant blow, especially considering how crucial pacers' injuries were in the previous game. With Tickner's availability in doubt for the rest of the game, the Kiwis will be relying heavily on their batters to provide a healthy cushion.
The lower order tried to put in the hard yards and show some grit, but they couldn't add much despite chewing up a few deliveries. Glenn Phillips' dismissal of Tevin Imlach made inroads into the tail, and the rest of the tail failed to add significant runs. The New Zealand bowlers' pressure and precision ultimately paid off, restricting the West Indies to 205 all out.
The West Indies' batting lineup showed promise, but ultimately fell short. Shai Hope, John Campbell, Brandon King, and Roston Chase all got starts but were dismissed at crucial moments, preventing them from capitalizing on their good beginnings. Blair Tickner's superb bowling was instrumental in breaking through the Windies' batting order, claiming 4 wickets. Michael Rae also had an impressive performance, taking 3 wickets.
Stumps on Day 1 and what a day it's been! The West Indies were put in to bat and started strong, thanks to John Campbell and Brandon King's 66-run opening partnership. However, they lost two wickets at the same score, taking some of the momentum away. The middle order tried to steady the ship, with Shai Hope top-scoring with 48, but unfortunately, the batters below him struggled to contribute significantly, leading to a disappointing total of 205 all out.

DROPPED! It was a tough chance though! Seales fires this one on a good length, on middle. Tom Latham, without any footwork, looks to tuck it away. The ball gets the connection on the handle of the batter. The ball loops a bit up and fails much short of the desperate one-handed dive of the bowler.

Appeal right away from Seales, but no says the umpire! Jayden Seales scoots from round the wicket and dishes a fuller, pitching it just outside off and swings in sharply. Conway gets on his front foot to push it to the cover, but the ball pings on the pad. The ball is missing down the leg side.
