Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs
Time to sign off - What will please SRH the most is that, after failing to defend 201 on the opening night, their bowling unit, their weaker suit, showed significant improvement. The 65-run win also gives their net run rate a much-needed boost after it took a hit in the previous game. KKR have now suffered back-to-back defeats, and this is the first time since 2012 that the Knight Riders have lost their first two games. We now head down south to Chennai, where the Chennai Super Kings will host the Punjab Kings on Friday, 3rd April. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as always, you can join us early for the build-up. See you then. Cheers!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - For his all-round showing (39 off 24 balls and 2/17 in 2 overs), Nitish Kumar Reddy wins the award. He says that it feels good and he was waiting for this match-winning performance for a long time. Mentions that he is thankful that he could deliver at the right time and also contributed with the ball. Reddy shares that he is just trying to keep a positive mindset. Admits that there have been too many negative thoughts in his head due to injuries. He got a break before IPL and worked on his bowling which is paying off now.
The captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad - Ishan Kishan says he is happy with the win and credits a committed team effort, with everyone putting in energy and contributing. He notes that the pitch wasn’t the easiest to bat on, but praises Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma for setting things up beautifully. Kishan admits it's always hard to stop a player like Finn Allen, but is particularly pleased with the bowling effort. He highlights the performances of Harsh Dubey, who has been doing well in domestic cricket, and Shivang Kumar, praising the latter for bowling exceptionally well with great heart. Ishan says that the team is continuing to identify areas to improve, with fielding being one aspect they want to work on collectively going forward.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
The Purple Cap holder shares his thoughts - Jaydev Unadkat says that it is still early in the season, but he is happy to wear the Purple Cap. Adds that experience counts massively. Mentions that they got a lucky breakthrough with the run out and were much improved with the ball than in the first game. Shares that the feedback from the batter was that it was a two-paced wicket. Tells that he always tries to keep a couple of options at the top of his mark and sees whether the batter is moving around or not. Ends by saying that changing angles and keeping the batters guessing all the time is very crucial in this format.
The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders - Ajinkya Rahane says that they had a couple of partnerships but the guys who were set needed to bat deep. Adds that they made a good comeback with the ball after the quick start from SRH. They did well to keep SRH under 230 after they were 130 odd in the first ten overs. Mentions that he thought that the ball was just holding up a bit in the second innings, with the slower ones gripping, but also praises the SRH bowlers for executing their plans. Says that the team has done well, it is just a one-off and still early in the tournament. Rahane admits that they need to reassess their combinations and home games are crucial and they have to pick up points. Ends by saying that they just have to have a positive mindset, with more awareness and they will be fine going ahead.
SRH's batting story - After Hyderabad were asked to bat first, Vaibhav Arora's opening over to Travis Head tested the Australian, but Head soon threw caution to the wind, with Abhishek Sharma joining in. A brief stumble saw SRH lose three quick wickets, but Heinrich Klaasen came through for his side to deliver the final flourish. The Sunrisers seemed destined for more than 226 after the way they began, but a strong comeback spell from Blessing Muzarabani helped KKR regain a foothold in the game. The tall Zimbabwean quick finished with 4 wickets on the night.
Run-outs and lack of partnerships cost KKR - Finn Allen came out swinging and set the tone for the chase. While his stay was cut short, Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept the momentum going but could not go on to play the long game. A couple of run-outs only made matters worse for KKR, and with no meaningful partnerships developing through the middle phase, the chase drifted away. To their credit, SRH used their variations smartly, and as the ball got older, they became increasingly effective.
SRH are on the board - Winless on their last two trips to Kolkata before this meeting, Sunrisers Hyderabad get across the line this time. While they couldn't quite bat KKR out of the game as it once looked like they might after that strong start, their bowlers ensured that 226 proved more than enough. It was a rather tame end to the chase for the Knight Riders, as it all fell away rather spectacularly for the home side despite a promising start.

Jaydev Unadkat To Varun Chakaravarthy OUT!
OUT! DRAGGED ON! Jaydev Unadkat wraps things up, and SUNRISERS HYDERABAD WIN BY 65 RUNS. This is a wide yorker, just around off. Varun Chakaravarthy stays back and throws his bat at it, but only manages to get an inside edge back onto the stumps. Not the ideal start for KKR at home, and they have a lot of thinking to do ahead of the next games.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The result is pretty much inevitable now. KKR can only delay it and will be hoping to score as many as possible to avoid taking a big hit on the NRR. Their middle order has collapsed dramatically, but credit to Sunrisers Hyderabad as well, who kept mixing their pace, getting the rewards, and already have one foot over the line. Also, Varun Chakaravarthy is the last man in.

W
Jaydev Unadkat To Kartik Tyagi OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Jaydev Unadkat goes pace on, serves this full and on off from around the wicket. Kartik Tyagi stays back and looks to flick it, closing the face of the bat. He only manages a thin bottom edge back to the keeper, where Ishan Kishan takes an easy catch. However, Tyagi takes the review here, but UltraEdge shows a clear spike when the ball is close to the bat. The on-field call of Out remains and SRH are just one wicket away from the win now.

Eshan Malinga To Ramandeep Singh OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Two wickets in the over for Eshan Malinga, and if there was any hope left for KKR, this should be it. Malinga bowls the slower one, on a good length, outside off. Ramandeep hangs deep in the crease and slashes at it. The ball flies off a thickish outside to backward point, where Jaydev Unadkat takes a safe catch around his waist by moving to his left and dropping to his knees.
The physio comes in for the concussion check as Kartik Tyagi got hit on the helmet on the previous ball. He seems fine and good to go.

Eshan Malinga To Sunil Narine OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! A well-judged catch by Aniket Verma. Malinga serves the slower one but attacks the stumps this time with a full ball. Narine gets the front leg out of the way and swings for the hills. He is early into the shot and this comes right off the toe end of the bat. Harsh Dubey put down a similar chance in the previous over but Verma is aware of his surroundings. He times the leap to perfection whilst staying side on and takes the catch over his head. He seemed to lose the ball in the lights but managed to hold on.

DROPPED, SIX!  Harsh Dubey has tipped it over the ropes. How costly will this prove to be? Reddy brings out the slower one and goes full on middle and leg. Narine clears the front leg and swings down to the ground. Hits it down to long on, where Harsh Dubey leaps to take the catch over his head. He had the option of taking a step back but it seems like he was not aware of where the boundary cushions were. The ball clips his fingertips and goes over the fence. 76 needed off 36 balls.

Eshan Malinga To Angkrish Raghuvanshi OUT!
OUT! CAMERON GREEN IS RUN OUT! A wicket on the last ball of the Powerplay, and this was coming with these two not communicating properly on a couple of occasions before this as well. Eshan Malinga bowls this full and on off, Angkrish Raghuvanshi drives it firmly down the pitch, where Malinga sticks his left foot out and takes the sting out of the ball. Angkrish calls for the run and Green responds, but the former realises that the bowler will get to the ball first. Malinga picks the ball up and breaks the stumps at the bowler's end with both batters in the middle of the pitch. Raghuvanshi thinks he is the one who is out and starts walking but the replay shows that Green did not cross him when the stumps were broken. So, it is the Aussie who has to make the walk back to the hut.
Gone! Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been asked to wait. The third umpire wants to check if the batters crossed. The replays confirm that they had not crossed and it will be Cameron Green, who will have to make the long walk back.
