That is all from this game. Total domination from England, and they take a 1-0 lead in this three-match ODI series. West Indies would like to shrug this game off as a bad dream and think of the future. Hope you all enjoyed the coverage. Join us on the 1st of June, Sunday, for the second ODI at 10 am GMT. You can join us earlier for the build-up. Till then, cheers!
Harry Brook, the winning captain of England, says that it has been a phenomenal performance from the team. Adds that as a batter, they have tried to manipulate the field, and as a fielding unit, they were fully committed to taking wickets, as this has been their approach. Mentions that they scored 400 today, and four batters scored fifty, which is a good sign for them, and they are taking positives from this game, as it has been a complete performance from them. States that they have got so much power in their batting lineup and which allows the batter to play freely as they want. Tells that Jamie Smith started very well at the top, as he put the pressure early on Windies, and then Jacks batted well in the end to help them reach that big total on the board. Further says that Saqib Mahmood bowled really well in the first Powerplay, and then Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton were just breathing fire after that with those short balls, and as a captain, it was good to see out there. Says that it is nice to get a win in the series opener.
Shai Hope, the skipper of West Indies, feels that his team's failure to make the most of the new ball allowed England to build a strong foundation, resulting in a massive total that West Indies struggled to catch up to. He acknowledges that his team has a quality side, particularly a strong batting unit, but believes that restricting England to around 350 runs would have been crucial to their chances of winning. With over 400 on the board, Hope thinks West Indies needed a solid start to chase down the target, which they failed to get, ultimately leading to them playing catch-up throughout the innings.
Jacob Bethell wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD. He says that it is pretty special to play for England here, and he is pretty happy with his performance today. States that he enjoys batting in the middle order, and it was easy today when he came in to bat with a good score on the board already. Mentions that he believes in himself as he knows he can hit the ball to the boundaries, and thus, he didn’t put much pressure on himself playing slowly early in the inning. Further says that he has learned a lot from IPL, and it was special to play in that tournament along with Virat, as it is one of the best leagues in the world, and he enjoyed his time in India.
...Presentation...
England were right on the money from the word go. They were accurate and disciplined, unlike the West Indies, who lacked it throughout their innings. England wouldn't have asked for a better start to the new era and the big summer waiting on the horizon.
West Indies were depleted by how they bowled, and a big number was looming over their head while coming out to the chase. They couldn't have started on a horrific note as they lost three wickets inside the Powerplay, including the big wicket of Keacy Carty, who was coming into this game with back-to-back centuries against Ireland. A lot of hope rested on Shai Hope, but he too fell quickly, and after that, it was just a procession. West Indies kept on losing wickets, eventually losing by a big margin of over 200 runs.
The West Indies won one thing in this match, and that was the toss; however, that decision ultimately backfired on them. To break things up of what happened in the first innings, the English openers showed the intent right away with Jamie Smith leading from the front. He fell after a valuable 37, but the next three batters went on to score 50-plus each. England were on course to score around 370-380, however, it was Bethell-Jacks' partnership that gave real impetus for England to push for 400. Jacob Bethell started slowly but paced his innings in the slog overs along with Will Jacks, who played his part brilliantly too.
Harry Brook starts his reign as the new white-ball captain with a massive win. A stamp of authority from Harry Brook and Co. as they take a 1-0 lead in this three-match ODI series. It maybe just one game into his captaincy but the way England played today, it looks like the future is bright under their new captain.

DRINKS! England are all over the game with four wickets, and the in-form batters like Keacy Carty and Shai Hope are back in the hut in this big chase. WI are reeling at 77/4 after 13 overs, and it will be a miracle if they pull out this chase from this position. Saqib Mahmood has given his heart and mouth and has bowled supremely well, picking up three wickets. Now, England will further look to take a couple more to just seal the game one-sided. Will Windies give a fight back, or will England win with a big margin? Let's see in this interesting phase! With that, Saqib Mahmood will bowl his seventh over straight here!

WIDE! Hard length and down the leg side, Amir Jangoo hops back and looks to tickle it fine, but gets beaten on the inside edge on its way to the keeper. There is a loud appeal for caught behind, but the umpire is unmoved. The keeper, Jos Buttler, is too interested, and England are going upstairs! There is nothing on UltraEdge, and England lose their review!

Saqib Mahmood To Shai Hope OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! CARSE HAS PLUCKED A STUNNER! Short of a length and angling into the body of the batter, particularly around the head of Shai Hope as he goes back and looks to pull it. He closes his eyes off the ball and ends up hitting it off the upper half of the bat. The ball goes very fast and flat towards deep backward square leg, where Brydon Carse comes in running to his left. He sees the ball going over the head and just stretches his body out of the motion backwards. In the end, he extends his left arm to take this stunner. What a grab!
