Right then, that is all we have from this second T20I. The series is tied at 1-1 and there is all to play for in the third and final installment. That game is on Sunday, 31st of July. It will start at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). Our build-up though begins in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Rilee Rossouw is the Player of the Match. He says his neck is feeling fine, a bit dizzy but hopes to be alright. Adds that he tries to be proactive and he trusted his instincts. Tells that Chris Jordan was superb with the ball and he bowled some world-class yorkers. Mentions that he was confident coming into the summer. When asked about getting to the three figures, he says he will try his best next time.
David Miller, the skipper of South Africa says it was a great turnaround and their fielding was much better this time. Adds that they had a few meetings before the match and the players did well to pick themselves up. On the bowlers, he feels they made things easier for him. Tells that they executed the game well by picking wickets regularly. Shares that it was a tactical decision to go left-right combination while batting and play against the shorter side of the ground. Ends by saying he is looking forward to the third game.
Jos Buttler, the skipper of England feels they did well to restrict them while bowling but could have done much better. Adds that it was a good wicket to bat on. It could be seen while Rilee Rossouw was batting. In his opinion, the England batters including himself got off to starts but failed to get going. Shares that they haven't performed to their potential and they need to get better. Says he is looking forward to the decider at the Ageas Bowl.
Time for the presentation...
Earlier, South Africa reached a competitive total thanks to half-centuries from Reeza Hendricks and Rilee Rossouw. The latter remained unbeaten till the end and it was an outstanding final over from Chris Jordan that prevented Rilee Rossouw from reaching his maiden T20I century. It was the English bowlers that received the treatment this time around as they were only able to claim three wickets between them.
South Africa looked like they went back to the drawing room and analyzed their weaknesses. They entered this game on the back of a poor bowling and fielding performance and looked determined to put up a better show here. Tabraiz Shamsi was taken to the cleaners in the last game but was the pick of the bowlers here taking 3 wickets for 27 runs in his quota of four overs. Andile Phehlukwayo was a little expensive but ended up taking three wickets as well. Lungi Ngidi chipped in with two wickets and was really economical. It was their fielding that proved to be remarkable and completed an all-round performance by the Proteas.
England did not start off the run chase well with Jason Roy unable to time the ball. Jos Buttler looked good in his cameo but could not capitalize on his start. Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali also got going but lost their wickets at crucial intervals. In the end, the target seemed a long way as the rest of the batters collapsed and they were bowled out for just 149 runs having faced 20 deliveries less than their total quota.
What a comeback this has been from South Africa! After being dominated in the first T20I, they have returned to beat England by 58 runs in this second game to level the series! Now there is all to play for as we go to Southampton for the final game which will be a series decider.
