We are back after the Lunch break!
... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...
Bowling analysis and injury concerns - Pakistan's bowling attack started with immense discipline, but their rhythm was temporarily disrupted by Bangladesh's early, aggressive approach. Mohammad Abbas looked consistent throughout the morning session to pick up two crucial wickets, while Khurram Shahzad earned one for his efforts. The major concern for the visitors remains a serious injury to Hasan Ali, who had to be stretchered off the field after absorbing a sharp blow to the head. Imam-ul-Haq stepped in as the substitute fielder, but Ali was back on the field after some rest and restarted his spell. We will be back with live coverage of the post-Lunch session at 6.40 am GMT.
Double blow and stabilizing resurgence - Just as the Bangladeshi batsmen seemed comfortable and began transitioning into a more defensive mindset, Pakistan broke through the burgeoning partnership. It was once again Mohammad Abbas who provided the crucial breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Tanzid, and Mominul followed him back to the pavilion shortly after, dismissed by Khurram Shahzad, leaving Bangladesh in a spot of bother. Despite the quick double-strike, senior batsmen Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim steadied the ship. The experienced duo constructed an unbeaten 38-run partnership, safely navigating the remaining overs to guide Bangladesh to the Lunch break without further damage.
Early disasters and explosive counterattack - Pakistan capitalized on the overcast conditions and a green pitch immediately after asking Bangladesh to bat. Opening bowler Mohammad Abbas made an instant impact by removing Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a duck on the very second ball of the match. However, the early setback did not deter the home side. Debutant Tanzid Hasan took charge with an aggressively counter-attacking approach, smashing a flurry of boundaries to shift the pressure right back onto the Pakistani bowlers. Senior batter Mominul Haque supported the debutant brilliantly, rotating the strike effectively and keeping the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace.

Huge cry for LBW appeal, but got turned down by the umpire. With a very short discussion, Pakistan skipper Shan Masood opts for the review. Khurram Shahzad pitches it wide outside off and nips back to the left-hander. Najmul Hossain Shanto walks across the track and looks to clip at it but misses and hits the front pad. However, the UltraEdge shows no bat involvement, but the Ball Tracking shows that the impact of the ball hitting the pad is outside the off stump. Pakistan lose their review.

DRINKS BREAK! The first hour of play is done, and Pakistan have a good lead in this contest. All thanks to Mohammad Abbas, who picked both wickets all by himself. The first one was Hasan Joy's dismissal, which was on the second delivery of the game. Then, it was the debutant Tanzid Hasan who was looking very aggressive and was also getting the runs on the board successfully, but Abbas made sure he doesn't bat too long. Hasan Ali got injured on his very first over and is off the field. Imam-ul-Haq is the man who takes his place as a substitute.

Halt! Hasan Ali is down on the ground after his head hits the deck while attempting the catch. The physio is having a chat with him, and the stretches have been brought. Ali is not at all looking good, and now he is moving off the field with the help of the stretcher. Hope there is nothing serious. Salman Agha will finish off the over. Also, Imam-ul-Haq comes on the field as a substitute fielder.

Gets it lobbed just past the outstretched right hand of the bowler. Ali hits the deck hard as he dives to his right and gets a bang on the side of his skull. Mohammad Abbas To Mahmudul Hasan Joy
Appeal for LBW straightaway. On a length, down the leg, swinging further down as well. Mahmudul Hasan Joy goes for a flick but misses and gets hit on the front pad.
We are all set to start this riveting contest! The two umpires have already taken their positions just after the national anthems. The players of Pakistan have scattered and Mohammad Abbas is walking towards his bowling mark with the red cherry in his hands. For Bangladesh, it's Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Tanzid Hasan to open the innings. Hassan Joy to take the strike. Abbas will go with three slips and a gully. Away we go...
Captain of Bangladesh - Najmul Hossain Shanto says that he would have bowled first as well. Shanto underscores a firm commitment to winning rather than playing for a draw, noting that the squad always aims for victory on home soil through consistent performances and daily execution of high-quality cricket. Finally, Shanto confirms two changes to the lineup, announcing that Tanzid Tamim makes his debut due to an unfortunate injury to Shadman, while Shoriful replaces Ebadot in the playing XI.
Skipper of Pakistan - Shan Masood opts to bowl first after observing grass on the pitch, noting that recent weather has kept the surface under covers and remains unpredictable for the coming days. Shan adds that the decision aligns with the strategic necessity of taking 20 wickets in Test cricket to secure a victory. Masood confirms three changes to the playing XI, bringing Babar, Sajid Khan, and Khurram into the side for Imam, Noman, and Shaheen respectively. Reflecting on the team's recovery from their previous match, Shan stresses the importance of mental and physical fitness alongside learning from past mistakes. Ultimately, he highlights that every fixture carries immense weight in the World Test Championship, urging his team to focus on the present, deliver a strong opening day, and build a commanding position.
PITCH REPORT - Athar Ali Khan is pitchside with his valuable insights. He starts off saying that the groundmen have done a solid job as it's been raining for the past few weeks in Sylhet. Khan says the wicket's a bit damp, less green than Mirpur. With rain and moisture, there's something for pacers, and spinners might get help too. He thinks that the team winning the toss will bowl first, teams batting first have won thrice. Both captains will likely bowl first, given the weather's uncertainty.
Pakistan (Playing XI) - Azan Awais, Shan Masood (C), Babar Azam (In place of Imam-ul-Haq), Abdullah Fazal, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan( WK), Salman Agha, Khurram Shahzad (In place of Noman Ali), Sajid Khan (In place of Shaheen Afridi), Hasan Ali, Mohammad Abbas.
Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Tanzid Hasan (On Test debut, in for Shadman Islam), Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (WK), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam (In place of Ebadot Hossain) and Nahid Rana.
TOSS - Pakistan have won the coin flip and they will be BOWLING first.
Tactical maneuvers amidst overcast skies - Varying elements and local pitch behaviors are set to heavily influence team strategies over the coming days. While the Sylhet pitch typically offers reliable turn for spin bowlers, an initial layer of grass could provide early joy for the seamers. But folks, the forecast is unfortunately not looking favorable for a full day of cricket, with a significant chance of rain. That said, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
Pakistan's rescue mission and star reinforcement - The tourists arrive in Sylhet under extreme duress, needing a radical overhaul of their batting approach to preserve their pride. Pakistan's top order capitulated easily against high-quality spin in Dhaka, exposing critical technical flaws. To square the series, their batsmen must display tighter defensive discipline and construct long, resilient partnerships. Fortunately, the visitor's camp has received a major morale injection with Babar Azam certified fit for selection. Having recovered from a left knee injury that sidelined him previously, his return injects immense stability and world-class experience into a shaken batting order.
Bangladesh's formula of total dominance - The home team displayed phenomenal grit, composure, and tactical brilliance throughout the first Test. Bangladesh dictated terms early by manufacturing a colossal first-innings total that deflated the opposition. Their deep batting order absorbed pressure effortlessly, while their bowling unit consistently snuffed out Pakistani fightbacks during key sessions. The final day belonged entirely to the Tigers' fiery bowling artillery. Speedster Nahid Rana dismantled the visitor's lower order with a relentless five-wicket burst. This lethal spell dismantled Pakistan's defense, securing a historic 104-run triumph and handing the hosts total psychological ascendancy.
Battle lines drawn in Sylhet - Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are warmly welcomed to the Pakistan tour of Bangladesh. An electric atmosphere envelops the scenic Sylhet International Cricket Stadium as Day 1 of the pivotal second Test gets underway. The hosts, Bangladesh, hold a decisive 1-0 lead in this brief two-match window. They put forth a clinical display in Dhaka to claim the series opener. With vital ICC World Test Championship points at stake, this final fixture shall be a cracker as well. The tension is palpable as both camps prepare to lock horns on the field.
... MATCHDAY ...
Turning the tide in Sylhet - The high-stakes bilateral cricket rivalry shifts its base to the scenic Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, where hosts Bangladesh hold a commanding 1-0 lead in this intense two-match Test series following an authoritative display of subcontinent mastery in the opening fixture. During that initial encounter in Dhaka, the Bangladeshi batting unit established a monumental foundation by posting a massive first-innings total of 413 runs, an imposing effort anchored by a magnificent, tactically disciplined century from their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. Although a resilient Pakistan team mounted a spirited reply courtesy of a gritty debut century from young prodigy Azan Awais, their lower-middle order suffered a catastrophic collapse, thereby surrendering a crucial first-innings lead. Chasing a demanding fourth-innings target of 268 runs on a rapidly deteriorating surface, Pakistan’s historically fragile batting lineup crumbled spectacularly under pressure on the final day, succumbing by 104 runs. As the teams gear up for this decisive second Test, the visitors find themselves in a desperate situation, forced to radically overhaul their tactical combinations and mental approach to salvage a victory and keep their ICC World Test Championship qualification campaign alive. The return of the linchpin - In a major tactical boost that drastically alters the psychological dynamic of the touring camp, Pakistan welcomes back their premier batter, Babar Azam, to bolster the top order for this do-or-die encounter. Babar’s forced absence from the opening match in Dhaka left a glaring, undeniable void of technical expertise, experience, and calm reassurance in the middle order. This administrative absence was painfully exposed during the team’s frantic second-innings capitulation against the turning ball. His long-awaited reintroduction into the playing XI instantly injects world-class steel and stability into the top four, effectively absorbing the immense pressure that has recently weighed heavily on the shoulders of skipper Shan Masood and vice-captain Saud Shakeel. Given Babar’s elite pedigree and refined footwork when negotiating high-quality, drift-heavy spin bowling, his presence will be absolutely paramount on a Sylhet surface that traditionally offers substantial grip and variable bounce as the match progresses. Technical calibration and pace conundrums - For Pakistan to successfully level the series and restore their cricketing pride, their primary objective must revolve around curing their chronic tendency to suffer catastrophic batting collapses whenever the opposition mounts sustained defensive pressure. Beyond fixing their internal psychological fragility, the visitors desperately need their pace attack to step up and provide a balanced counterweight to the hardworking spinner, Noman Ali, who shouldered an immense bowling workload in Dhaka. There are currently major, glaring concerns surrounding the rhythm, velocity, and overall clinical efficiency of spearhead Shaheen Afridi, who looked searchingly short of his trademark lethal edge during the series opener. Shaheen failed to extract any meaningful lateral movement or deceptive reverse swing on a sluggish, unresponsive surface, allowing the Bangladeshi top-order batters to settle into an easy rhythm early in their innings. If the Pakistani pace quartet cannot successfully exploit the early morning moisture and the light grass cover typically left on the Sylhet track to claim early wickets, they risk allowing the home side to completely dictate the tempo of the game once more. Assessing the home advantage - Bangladesh approaches this second Test riding a massive wave of partisan momentum, operating comfortably out of a thoroughly fortified home environment where their nuanced understanding of spinning conditions transforms them into an elite red-ball outfit. The absolute core of their tactical strength resides in the world-class spin tandem of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a pairing that possesses an impeccable, almost telepathic understanding of local soil behaviors and drift angles. The overriding opportunity presented to the Tigers in this match is to ruthlessly exploit Pakistan's fragile psychological state, aiming to secure historic, back-to-back Test series victories against a historically dominant opponent. Conversely, Bangladesh's prominent structural weakness remains their historic vulnerability to top-order collapses when confronted with high-quality, conventional swing bowling under overcast morning skies. The single greatest threat to their dream of a clean sweep is the undeniable reality of a furious, pride-driven counter-attack from a talented Pakistani batting unit that is now significantly reinforced by returning world-class personnel. Tacticians in the crucible - The definitive individual battles of this second Test match will undoubtedly unfold in the middle overs, highlighted by the fascinating tactical chess match between a returning Babar Azam and the crafty off-spin variations of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. This specific matchup will serve as the primary barometer for the game, deciding whether Pakistan can successfully construct a match-winning total or if Bangladesh will choke the run flow through relentless, suffocating defensive fields. Simultaneously, the explosive opening bursts of a desperate, point-to-prove Shaheen Afridi against the technical composure of an in-form Najmul Hossain Shanto will set a fiery, uncompromising tone for the entire match. A palpable sense of electricity and anticipation is building rapidly around the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, with local cricket enthusiasts turning out in droves to witness what could be a landmark moment in their nation's sporting history. With maximal ICC World Test Championship points on the line and a fierce, deeply rooted Asian rivalry adding fuel to the fire, this upcoming clash promises to deliver five days of absorbing, elite-level red-ball cricket.
