We made too many mistakes - India's skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur admits that they did not play good cricket in this series. She mentions that the team did a lot of things right in the T20 format, but adds that ODIs are a different challenge altogether. Kaur explains that the 50-over format is a long game where you have to keep doing the right things again and again, and feels that her side made too many mistakes. She gives credit to Australia for the way they played. Kaur adds that there are plenty of learnings for her side. Healy headlined a ruthless rout - After Harmanpreet Kaur won her sixth toss in as many games in the series, India were sent on a leather hunt. They were made to look listless, operating with just five bowling options on the day. Alyssa Healy stood at the forefront of Australia's batting dominance, producing a superlative 158 in her final ODI appearance. There were century partnerships along the way, first with Georgia Voll and then with Beth Mooney. Mooney went on to bring up a hundred of her own, and with Nicola Carey providing late fireworks, the home side reached 409, their 3rd highest total in Women's ODIs.
A mountain too high for India - It was always going to be a mountain to climb, and the first ten overs were as good as it got for India in the chase. They did lose Smriti Mandhana early, but Pratika Rawal and Jemimah Rodrigues got them off to a brisk start. Rodrigues, in particular, looked busy from the outset, but all the momentum fizzled out after her departure. Alyssa Healy had the luxury of multiple bowling options to turn to and even brought herself on later in the innings. Alana King weaved her magic through the middle phase, effectively sealing the fate of the game and finishing with four wickets on the night. Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana offered stubborn resistance, and for what it was worth, their partnership helped India avoid their heaviest defeat in terms of runs in ODIs, which stands at 221 runs, also against Australia.
Australia complete a clean sweep - A thoroughly dominant performance, and it has come in Alyssa Healy's final ODI appearance, which makes it even more special. The women in green and gold have reasserted their dominance in ODIs at home in emphatic fashion. With this 3-0 sweep, Australia have retained the trophy, having taken an unassailable 8-4 lead in the multi-format series. India had no answers to what Australia put in front of them across the three ODIs, and the fight or lack of it will be a concern for the ODI champions.
