Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne on Saturday attributed his side's failure to reach the semi-finals of IPL 3 to the inexperience of most of his players which he said showed in big games.
"Inexperience has cost us in certain big moments. When you don't have inexperience in tough situation you may have some tendency to panic. It is really disappointing not to qualify for the semi-finals," Warne said after his side's eight-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in their last league match.
"To win six games out of eight after losing three in a row shows a lot of character. Unfortunately there was pressure in the last three games and it all boiled down to this one. I think our inexperienced showed," he said.
Warne said his side tried everything to win Saturday's match but felt it was not their day.
"We did not get enough runs after a good start. We tried everything, different field to get a wicket but it did not happen. As captain and coach I take full responsibility. I take full responsibility for three losses in a row," he said.
He praised KKR captain Sourav Ganguly for his performance on Saturday.
"He (Ganguly) is an experienced player. He played beautifully. He took a good catch to get rid of Yusuf Pathan also. He is still a very good player," said the legendary leg-spinner.
on Friday, Warne said his chances of playing in the next edition of the IPL was 50-50 but on Saturday he seemed to be tilting the balance towards taking part in the IPL 4.
"I am not sure, to be honest. We started with three in a row losses and we ended also three losses. Between that we have won six out of eight. I think I am still good at captaincy and also bowling pretty well.
"It's completely different set up next year. Depends whether there will be retention by the franchisees or everyone going up for auction. For me it's all about enjoyment. I think I am fit enough," said the 40-year-old Australian.
"I thank Manoj Badale, the chairman of Rajasthan Royals. He gave me the opportunity to captain and coach the side for three years. Since then, we have won in the first year with this inexperienced side. We have won many matches than other teams in three years. It's been a great fun."
