India Women vs England Women, 1st ODI Highlights: Smriti Mandhana's assured 91 and Harmanpreet Kaur's unbeaten 74 guided India Women to a 7-wicket win against England in the first ODI in Hove. Mandhana and Harmanpreet added 99 runs for the third wicket to ensure India were always in the driving seat in the 228-run chase. Earlier, Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia had kept India going after the side lost the wicket of Shafali Verma early. Bhatia fell for 50 and skipper Harmanpreet came out to the middle along with Mandhana, and the two took the match away from England, even though the latter narrowly missed out on a century. Harmanpreet went on to hit her half-century and saw India through without any more hiccups, and rather fittingly, hit the winning six. England had posted 227/7. For India, Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets, while Meghna Singh, Jhulan Goswami, Sneh Rana, Harleen Deol and Rajeshwari Gayakwad took a wicket each. On the other hand, Alice Davidson-Richards' unbeaten 50-run knock and 43 from Danielle Wyatt played a big role in taking England to a respectable total despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

England Women on the other hand will be happy with how things have concluded for them. At one stage 200 was looking a bit far-fetched, but the middle order has done well to get them well over the 200 mark. Danni Wyatt and Alice Davidson-Richards were the two batters who were majorly responsible for getting England Women to a par total. Danni Wyatt perished after a fine knock of 43, but Alice Davidson-Richards stay till the end and notched up her maiden half-ton. Sophie Ecclestone and Charlotte Dean too played good cameos which came eventually helped England Women put on a score of 227. They have given their bowlers something to bowl at now. Can they defend this target? We will find out. Stay tuned for the second essay.

After electing to bowl first, India got off to a bright start. Their pacers used the conditions perfectly and dismissed the English openers in succession. They capitalized on that and took 5 wickets at end of the 27th over and put England under the pump. However, they were unable to grab quick wickets towards the end and let England get away with a few partnerships. But overall it’s been a disciplined bowling show from the bowlers. India Women would fancy their chances of chasing this one down and taking the lead in this series.

!
It's been an exceptional recovery from England Women. They have managed to put a competitive total on the board and have a lot to fight with now. India will be a wee bit disappointed with how things have panned out in the latter half of the innings.
