Roger Binny, who was a member of the 1983 World Cup winning Indian cricket team, will begin his tryst with Bengal cricket on Tuesday by taking over as the coach of the Ranji side.
He will join the Bengal probables who are already training under high performance manager Dr Vece Paes who has devised a Peak Performance Programme (PPP), a programme that aims to bring cricketers in shape.
Binny, a former India medium-pacer, met the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Jagmohan Dalmiya during a visit on July 23 to discuss his job profile.
It is expected that the 40-member Bengal probables, including the six ICL players who have been taken into the mainstream fold, will undergo training under Binny before Bengal begin their season with the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup to be held in Hyderabad from September 10 to 22.
The six ICL players who have availed the Board's amnesty offer are Deep Dasgupta, Rohan Gavaskar, Eklakh Ahmed, Shib Sagar Singh, Subhamoy Das and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala.
Meanwhile, the CAB has imposed a code of conduct on the players that bars them from talking to the media during the upcoming season.
