The Pakistan cricket team failed to win a single contest on their tour of Australia, losing all three Tests of the series. Seein' Pakistan's poor show Down Under, a comment, attributed to Australian legend Adam Gilchrist, went viral. In the comment, it was claimed that the former wicket-keeper batter called Pakistan's worst Asian team in Australian conditions. Many fans shared the comment, highlighting what the former Australia star thinks of the Pakistan team Down Under. But, Gilchrist has now issued a clarification, saying he never said such a thing.
"Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions, what (have) they won here in the last 35 years?", the comment on social media read.
Issuing a clarification, Gilchrist said, "I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes. Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a World Champion Aust team and very nearly pinched a Test or two."
Pakistan pacers were expected to do well Down Under considering their reputation of being one of the finest pace attacks in the world. But, the usually quick unit could hardly cross the 140kph mark with the ball during the 3-match Test series.
Even Star pacer Shaheen Afridi admitted that such low speed for him and his teammates surprised even the touring side.
"To be honest, first of all, when we were bowling and looking at the board (side screen), we were surprised whether we were really bowling at that pace because our bodies are adapted to bowl faster. We could not find how we were not able to bowl over 132-33 kph. We were surprised if it was pre-decided that the speed gun wouldn't show more than that," Shaheen said ahead of the start of the T20I series vs New Zealand.
