Young Karnataka batter Prakhar Chaturvedi on Monday attained an astonishing feat during the Cooch Behar Trophy final against Mumbai. Prakhar entered the record books by smashing an unbeaten 404 in the first innings of the title clash of India's annual U-19 four-day competition. He hit 46 fours and three sixes to remain unbeaten as Karnataka declared for 890/8 at the KSCA Navule Stadium. Resuming on his overnight score of 256 not out, Prakar carried his bat smashing 46 fours and three sixes as Karnataka declared their innings on Monday.
Karnataka took a huge lead of 510 runs in the first innings and as soon as the declaration came on the fourth day, both teams decided to settle for a draw. Karnataka were crowned champions on the basis of first innings lead.
Speaking of the match, Karnataka opted to bowl first in Shivamogga. Ayush Mhatre seemed to have given Mumbai the advantage as he scored 145 to take his team to strong total of 380.
For Karanataka, Hardik Raj stood out with his figures of 4/80, while Samit Dravid, son of India head coach Rahul Dravid, and Samarth N also took two wickets each.
However, Prakhar's knock of 404 put the sting out of the equations as Karnataka gained control of the final. He became the first player to score 400+ in the final of the tournament.
Harshil Dharmani also scored 169 for Karnataka but his knock was overshadowed amid Prakhar's carnage.
