The ten player Round Robin event has provided spectacular chess and Anand has been in good form and won his third game. Anand has tallied 5 points and with a round to go has played above his rating strength.
Sergey Karjakin has been leading the tournament throughout and has logged 5.5 points. He was in a slightly inferior position against Peter Svidler of Russia at the time of going to press. Magnus Carslen who was trailing in second place with 5 points was fighting in an equal position against Wang Hao of China. The game between Veselin Topalov and Levon Aronian had ended in a draw.
Anand's opening repertoire was once again evident as he switched to the Queen Pawn opening after playing the King Pawn throughout in this event. What followed was a wild game where Anand was in a sacrificing mood, giving up pawns and pieces to target the King. Hammer managed to avoid checkmate but was forced to give up material in the process and the liquidation into the end game had Anand enjoying a rook and three pawns as against his opponent's bishop and two pawns.
