The 16-year-old Sindhu won 21-14, 15-21, 21-13 in a hard-fought match Saturday night to reach the finals of a Grand Prix Open for the first time in her nascent career.
Sindhu had earlier defeated World No 22 Juan Gu of Singapore in the first round. Sindhu now plays World No. 19 and second seed Jie Yao of Netherlands in the finals.
Incidentally, every player that Sindhu has beaten en route to the final has had a higher world ranking than her.
Sindhu currently trains at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad and her trip to the Dutch city was sponsored by Olympic Gold Quest.
