Saina named sportsperson of the year

Ace badminton player Saina Nehwal has been named the Sports Illustrated India's sportsperson of the year.

Ace badminton player Saina Nehwal has been named the Sports Illustrated India's sportsperson of the year.

Other awards included Team of the Year - Indian Davis Cup Squad, International Sportsperson - Usain Bolt, Young player - Virat Kohli, Lifetime Achievement - late Rajsingh Dungarpur, Editor's Award for Excellence - Leander Paes,

The awards were declared last night at a function held here in a city hotel.

"The Sports Illustrated award are an attempt to provide the essential acknowledgement and recognition for the achievement of men and women who have excelled in their field," Sports Illustrated India Editor-in-Chief Sundeep Mishra said.

Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna were among the sportspersons present on the occassion.
