The body of a 17-year-old sports trainee was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room inside Wayanad District Sports Council women's hostel at Kalpetta in Wayanad district, police said.  (Click here for latest athletics news)

Resanamol, a native of Cherpuzha in Kannur district, was found hanging in her room by her room mate around 11.30 am,following which the warden was informed.

Police, on information, broke open the door and recovered the body, Kalpetta Sub-Inspector Raman Unni said.

"The girl, a member of the athletic squad, was enquired by her colleagues and leader about a mobile phone in her possession while returning after their training this morning. As she gave conflicting replies, they informed the matter to the warden," he said.

The warden, who questioned the girl and could not get a convincing reply about the mobile phone, intimated the matter to Resanamol's mother and left for her room. A few minutes later she was found hanging, he added.

The body has been sent for post-mortem to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, he said.
