A special throw will be needed from one of the competitors to beat Pathirage's benchmark.

The 88.05m throw by Neeraj was his season best by quite some margin. He had not crossed 86m in his first two competitive appearances of 2026. Still not enough for first, as things stand!

Pathirage is back on top! What a battle we are having in Lausanne tonight! The Sri Lankan improves once again, and comes up with a throw of 88.14m on his third try. He takes first position from Neeraj by the tiniest of margins: 0.09m!

Neeraj manages just 83.72m on his third attempt.

What a response from Neeraj Chopra. Pathirage improved, Anderson Peters improved, but Neeraj then made his mark to take top spot. But the battle is far from over!

What a throw by Neeraj Chopra! India's javelin superstar throws 88.05m on his second attempt, and topples both Pathirage and Peters to take top spot! Fantastic stuff!

Rumesh Pathirage continues to go from strength to strength! He extends his lead with a throw of 87.06m with his second attempt. And then Grenada's Anderson Peters throws it 84.76m and goes up to second!

Neeraj starts well! He throws 83.54m with his first attempt, and moves up to second spot! Anderson Peters and Jakub Vadlejch failed to cross the 80m mark with their first throws.

Sri Lanka's Pathirage throws 85.99m with his first throw! That's a pretty good benchmark set by the man in form. If Neeraj Chopra wants to win today, he'll have to produce his best throw of the year to beat Pathirage.

We are around 10 minutes away from the start of the Lausanne Diamond League 2026. The scheduled start time of the event is 8:22 PM local time (11:52 PM IST). Here's the field:

Sri Lanka's Pathirage is the man to beat when it comes to the farthest javelin throw of the 2026 calendar year. Pathirage threw 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League, entering the record books as a result.

The reigning Olympic gold medalist, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, is not participating in the Lausanne Diamond League. His coach revealed that Nadeem is skipping this event in order to be ready for another international event at the Asian Games later this year.

Nadeem had a very poor showing at the Commonwealth Games three weeks ago.

Tonight will just be Neeraj Chopra's third javelin event of 2026, with the 28-year-old spending the first half of the year recovering from injuries. His first event of the year was the previous Diamond League in Doha, where he narrowly missed out on the Top 3, finishing fourth.

In his second event, the Commonwealth Games 2026, he won silver!

A number of high qualtiy javelin players will be in action at the Lausanne Diamond League today. Among them are Grenada's Anderson Peters, USA's Curtis Thompson, Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott and Czechia's Jakub Vadlejch.

The focus will certainly be on the battle between the two Asian stars: India's Neeraj Chopra and Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage. Pathirage has been the undisputed javelin king in 2026, winning eight of the nine tournaments he has played in, including the last two Diamond Leagues and also gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Will Neeraj be able to break his mojo today?
