Rome: check. Doha: check. Lausanne: check. Rumesh Pathirage wins his ninth competitive javelin event of 2026, and a hattrick of Diamond League events. He continues to set a remarkably consistent benchmark in the world of javelin this year.

Now, the focus turns to the Asian Games 2026, where Neeraj Chopra and Rumesh Pathirage will once again go head to head. Add in Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, and that contest is set to be a blockbuster affair. The Asian Games gets underway on September 19, just less than a month from now.

85.69m at the Doha Diamond League, 85.83m at the Commonwealth Games, and now 88.05m at the Lausanne Diamond League. Neeraj Chopra has improved in each event in 2026, since returning from his injury. The 28-year-old is still firmly among javelin's elite, and at the moment, seems to be the only man capable of challenging Pathirage.

Here are the final standings after all six rounds at the men's javelin event in the Lausanne Diamond League 2026. Rumesh Pathirage takes first, Neeraj Chopra comes second and Anderson Peters third.

Neeraj Chopra won't be first in Lausanne! He manages 82.15m on his final throw, and so he ends the event 0.09m behind Pathirage's best throw. Such fine margins to lose by.

Right, can Peters snatch a dramatic win? The answer is no, but the throw is good! It is Peters' best throw of the evening and the season: 86.69m. He keeps third, though.

Rumesh Pathirage does not improve on his final attempt. His throw goes just over 80m, and he chooses to invalidate it. Up to Neeraj Chopra and Anderson Peters now! Can they improve?

Anderson Peters, Curtis Thompson or Keshorn Walcott have not improved on their fifth attempt, so Neeraj stays in the top two with Pathirage. The Indian will have one more chance to take top spot!

Seems like Neeraj Chopra has skipped his fifth attempt. The exact reason is unclear, no clarity yet whether the Indian is suffering from any injury.

Pathirage's fifth attempt was an invalid one. After crossing 85m with each of his first four throws, Pathirage final commits a foul.

Four rounds done, and it's Pathirage first, Neeraj second and Peters third at the Lausanne Diamond League men's javelin event. Will anyone be able to break Pathirage's win streak?

Anderson Peters comes up with his best throw of the evening with his fourth attempt, sending it 86.61m! Unfortunately for him, it keeps him in third, behind Pathirage and Neeraj.

Neeraj Chopra does not manage to improve on his fourth go. His fourth attempt is a foul one. Pathirage throws 86.71m on his fourth attempt, but that isn't good enough to improve on his own best either. 

A special throw will be needed from one of the competitors to beat Pathirage's benchmark.

The 88.05m throw by Neeraj was his season best by quite some margin. He had not crossed 86m in his first two competitive appearances of 2026. Still not enough for first, as things stand!

Pathirage is back on top! What a battle we are having in Lausanne tonight! The Sri Lankan improves once again, and comes up with a throw of 88.14m on his third try. He takes first position from Neeraj by the tiniest of margins: 0.09m!

Neeraj manages just 83.72m on his third attempt.

What a response from Neeraj Chopra. Pathirage improved, Anderson Peters improved, but Neeraj then made his mark to take top spot. But the battle is far from over!

What a throw by Neeraj Chopra! India's javelin superstar throws 88.05m on his second attempt, and topples both Pathirage and Peters to take top spot! Fantastic stuff!

Rumesh Pathirage continues to go from strength to strength! He extends his lead with a throw of 87.06m with his second attempt. And then Grenada's Anderson Peters throws it 84.76m and goes up to second!

Neeraj starts well! He throws 83.54m with his first attempt, and moves up to second spot! Anderson Peters and Jakub Vadlejch failed to cross the 80m mark with their first throws.

Sri Lanka's Pathirage throws 85.99m with his first throw! That's a pretty good benchmark set by the man in form. If Neeraj Chopra wants to win today, he'll have to produce his best throw of the year to beat Pathirage.

The men's javelin throw event is underway in Lausanne! Neeraj Chopra, Rumesh Pathirage, Anderson Peters, Jakub Vadljech... or someone else? Who will win? Time to find out.

We are around 10 minutes away from the start of the Lausanne Diamond League 2026. The scheduled start time of the event is 8:22 PM local time (11:52 PM IST). Here's the field:

Sri Lanka's Pathirage is the man to beat when it comes to the farthest javelin throw of the 2026 calendar year. Pathirage threw 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League, entering the record books as a result.

The reigning Olympic gold medalist, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, is not participating in the Lausanne Diamond League. His coach revealed that Nadeem is skipping this event in order to be ready for another international event at the Asian Games later this year.

Nadeem had a very poor showing at the Commonwealth Games three weeks ago.

Tonight will just be Neeraj Chopra's third javelin event of 2026, with the 28-year-old spending the first half of the year recovering from injuries. His first event of the year was the previous Diamond League in Doha, where he narrowly missed out on the Top 3, finishing fourth.

In his second event, the Commonwealth Games 2026, he won silver!

A number of high qualtiy javelin players will be in action at the Lausanne Diamond League today. Among them are Grenada's Anderson Peters, USA's Curtis Thompson, Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott and Czechia's Jakub Vadlejch.

The focus will certainly be on the battle between the two Asian stars: India's Neeraj Chopra and Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage. Pathirage has been the undisputed javelin king in 2026, winning eight of the nine tournaments he has played in, including the last two Diamond Leagues and also gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
