... DAY 4, SESSION 3 ...
-
!
Right then, this game is nicely poised with four sessions remaining in the Test. With Nathan Lyon unlikely to bowl, the Aussie pace attack will be expected to fill that void. On the other hand, England have the resources to get over the line here and bring the series back on level terms. Can the English batters rise to the challenge? We shall find out as the players return for the final session of Day 4 in a bit.

With a lead of 221 runs, Cameron Green and Alex Carey started the second session steadily for Australia. However, they lost both set batters in quick succession which put the visitors in a spot of bother. They seemed to have no answer to England's short-ball approach and found it very hard to stay at the crease. That said, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins stuck at it and provided their side with valuable runs. Moreover, Nathan Lyon was in a lot of pain but braved his calf injury to provide able support to Mitchell Starc. At the start of Day 4, Australia would have fancied themselves a lead in excess of 400 but 370 is still a daunting total.

Australia have been bowled out for 279 in their second innings! Ben Stokes will be pleased with the fight shown by his bowlers and England now need 371 runs to win and draw level in the series! Having been at the receiving end in the first innings, England kept directing short-pitched stuff in the two sessions of Day 4 and certainly gave Australia a taste of their own medicine. Every English pacer ran in and peppered the visitors with short balls and never allowed any of the opposition batters to settle in. Stuart Broad was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets while Josh Tongue and Ollie Robinson accounted for two wickets each.
