Serena Williams Wins 23rd Major Title To Create Open-Era Record

Venus was playing her first Major final since 2009 Wimbledon

Serena won the first set 6-4 to go ahead in the summit clash

It was only a matter of time before she inched towards her 23rd Grand Slam title

And she did it! Serena won her seventh Australian Open crown and 23rd Grand Slam title

Venus had to be content with the runners-up trophy as she was vying for her eighth Major title and first Australian Open crown

Serena Williams regained her World No.1 ranking with the win

This was the 2nd time the 2 met at the Australian Open final with Serena also winning the previous instance way back in 2003

Serena went past Steffi Graf's record of 22 Major titles to create a new Open era record

She is now only one Major title behind Margaret Court's 24 in the all time list
