Indian Premier League Beats Indian Cricket

Star India edged out Sony Pictures to secure the Indian Premier League's media rights with a bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore on Monday. The bidding for various media rights of the cash-rich league was held in Mumbai for a five-year period from 2018-2022. Speaking exclusively to NDTV, Amrit Mathur, former COO of Delhi Daredevils said," I think the numbers are big but not astonishing, in the sense that it was anticipated. Everybody knew that the market was much bigger and the number has to go up but when you look at it, it means the board (Indian cricket board) now makes a profit of Rs 2000 crore a year from the IPL."
