That's a wrap for our coverage of Day 5 of Commonwealth Games 2026. A very successful day for India, as they more than double their medal tally from yesterday. Six medals won today, here's a recap:

Sharmila becomes the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in para athletics! Meanwhile, high jump national record holder Sarvesh Kushare becomes the first Indian to win a silver in the men's high jump event at the CWG.

BIG TWIST: Shilpa K Shyla has been upgraded to bronze in the women's shot put F57 final! Nigeria's Euchariya Iyiazi, who originally came third, loses her medal as her valid throw is declared a foul. 

Silver for Valluri Ajaya Babu! It's a fabulous contest that goes right down to the wire, but Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad beats India's Ajaya Babu with his final attempt.

Ajaya Babu claims the lead by lifting 181kg on his final clean and jerk lift, but Muhammad betters his own best with a lift of 184kg to take gold!

Overall, Muhammad's total is 331kg (147kg snatch, 184kg clean and jerk), Ajaya Babu's total is 330kg (149kg snatch, 181kg clean and jerk).

Back to weightlifting, which is India's final ongoing assignment of Day 5. Valluri Ajaya Babu is currently third, having successfully lifted 174kg on his first clean and jerk attempt.

But as I write that, Ajaya Babu takes the lead! He lifts 178kg on his second go. But then Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad lifts 181kg on his second go to snatch the lead back!

One attempt left for both Ajaya Babu and Erry Hidayat Muhammad.

India's final two athletics events of Day 5 end without a medal. Rakeshbhai Bhatt and Shreyansh Trivedi finish fifth and sixth respectively in the men's 100m T38 final.

On the other hand, Tejas Shirse came last in the men's 110m hurdles final, seemingly pulling up during the race.

Sarvesh Anil Kushare bags silver! Nobody manages to beat the 2.28m barrier, so the 2.25m standings decide the medal order. Sarvesh finishes second, with Jamaica's Romaine Beckford clinching gold.

A great effort from Aadarsh Ram Jothi Shankar too, who finished fifth.

Heartbreak for Shilpa K Shyla, who finishes 4th.

Back to the women's shot put F57 final, and Shilpa K Shyla has dropped to fourth! The last competitor, Nigeria's Eucharia Iyiazi, has displaced her from the bronze medal spot. 

However, Sharmila is still in the gold medal position! It's looking good!

Sarvesh has done it! He is guaranteed a medal finish in the men's high jump final, after successfully crossing the 2.25m barrier. Only three contenders remain, with Sarvesh currently in second position.

Sarvesh goes for a 2.28m jump, but is unable to cross it on his first attempt.

As things stand, four Indian athletes are occupying medal positions in their respective sports:

- Sharmila Dhankar and Shilpa K Shyla are in the Top 3 of the women's shot put F57 final. 
- Sarvesh Kushare is joint-second in the men's high jump final.
- Valluri Ajaya Babu was in the gold medal spot after the snatch round in the men's 79kg weightlifting final.

India back in the lead in the women's shot put F57 final! Sharmila Dhankar throws 9.81m to comfortably take the gold medal position, for now. All six of her throws were beyond 9m. Sharmila is guaranteed a medal.

As it stands, Sharmila is in the gold medal spot and Shilpa K Shyla is in the bronze medal spot.

Sarvesh Kushare is guaranteed a Top 4 finish in the men's high jump final. He is one of four to cross the 2.20m barrier. 

Unfortunately, Aadarsh Ram Jothi Shankar fails to cross the same mark. He finishes fifth with a best jump of 2.15m.

India's Sajan Prakash fails to make a good impression in the men's 200m butterfly final, finishing eighth among eighth swimmers. He finishes with a time of 1:58.05. New Zealand's Lewis Clareburt wins gold with a time of 1:55.05.

India's Aryan Nehra finishes seventh out of eight swimmers in the men's 800m freestyle final. A good effort from him to qualify for the final, but he falls short of medal contention. He finishes with a time of 8:07.26.

Australia won gold, silver and bronze in the event!

Shilpa K Shyla's lead in the women's shotput F57 final does not last long. Ghana's Zinabu Issah takes the gold medal spot with a best throw of 8.65m. All six of her throws were better than Shilpa's best throw. 

Another Indian up next. Sharmila Dhankar will hope to enter the medal hunt.

V Ajaya Babu retakes the CWG snatch record in his category! The Indian improves to 149kg on his final snatch attempt in the men's 79kg weightlifting final, going up to the gold medal position. 

The clean and jerk round to follow!

A successful 145kg lift on his first snatch attempt for V Ajaya Babu in the men's 79kg weightlifting final. It takes him straight to the gold medal position! It's a Games record too.

But not for long. Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad raises the bar to 147kg on his second snatch attempt. And seconds later, England's Chris Murray lifts 148kg and takes top spot!

Sumit Kundu suffers defeat in the men's 70kg boxing Round of 16 tie against Northern Ireland's Jon McConnell. He was up 4-1 in the judges' ruling after the second round, but ends up losing 4-1 after the third and final round!

India's Shilpa K Shyla goes to the lead in the women's shot put F57 final! Her second attempt is 6.95m, which takes her to the gold medal spot in the final.

And she goes even better on her third attempt. This one's 7.26m! And that will be her best. 

Three contenders remain, including Sharmila Dhankar of India. This means that India is guaranteed at least one medal in the women's shot put F57 final!

Indian boxer Sumit Kundu is taking on Northern Ireland's Jon McConnell in the men's 70kg Round of 16. The bout has begun. Can Sumit add to India's boxing successes of Day 5?

Aadarsh Ram Jothi Shankar, the only remaining India, makes his first jump of the men's high jump final... and he goes straight to the lead! He surpasses the 2.10m barrier with ease. Fantastic stuff. This means that Sarvesh Anil Kushare is down to joint-second.

But not for long! Sarvesh Kushare matches Aadarsh Ram's 2.10m jump, and joins him as joint-first.

India's women's 3v3 wheelchair basketball campaign ends in disappointment, as they lose 7-6 to Nigeria in their final pool match. India finish bottom in their pool, with defeats in each of their three games.

Official: Tejaswin Shankar has withdrawn midway through the men's high jump final, after a failed first attempt. There was confusion before the event whether he would feature, but now he has officially withdrawn.

After a long wait, one of the three Indians finally has a go in the men's high jump final. It is Sarvesh Anil Kushare and he has crossed the 2.05m barrier to go up to joint-first.

Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar has failed to cross the mark in his first attempt!

We are a few minutes away from the start of the men's 79kg weightlifting final. India have one representative in the 11-competitor field: V Ajaya Babu will fighting for a medal!

India's Swatik Patel has finished sixth in the men's 100m breastroke SB9 final in para swimming. He finished with a time of 1:15.82. Australia's Beau Matthews won gold with a time of 1:09.41.

Big news: Tejaswin Shankar, one of India's big medal hopes, has pulled out of the men's high jump final! Tejaswin appeared on the introduction of the athletes, but will not take part. The official website has listed him as a DNS (Did Not Start).

And now a correction! Tejaswin IS PARTICIPATING. He was wrongly listed as a DNS on the official website.

India's Putul Sonowal loses his final Men's Singles lawn bowls pool match. His campaign comes to an end after a loss to Kenya's Anwar Hamada. No semi-final for Sonowal, but he'll cherish the win against Hall of Famer Ryan Bester in his first match.

The women's shot put F57 final is underway! India have two representatives in this event, in the form of Sharmila Dhankar and Shilpa K Shyla. 

Three Indians are in the athletics men's high jump final, while two Indians are taking part in the para athletics women's shot put F57 final. A good chance for India to secure medals!

The focus is set to turn to athletics and para athletics, with two medal events beginning shortly:

The second round also goes Sakshi's way. She even knocked down Lethabo once. Though Lethabo tries to be aggressive, she is no match for Sakshi. She takes the second round 5:0 as well. The third round has been won by Sakshi too. She is in quarter-finals and is one win away from assuring herself of a medal.   

Sakshi's bout has started. She is in the blue corner while her rival from Botswana is fighting from the red. Sakshi is quite fast with her movements. Botswana's boxer Lethabo is playing the catch up act here against the long reach of Sakshi. Sakshi's punch combination is much more effective as she takes the first round 5:0.

Next up: Sakshi Choudhary vs Lethabo Modukanele (Botswana) in Women's 51kg Round of 16. 

Now, Putul Sonowal is up against Anwar Hamada (Kenya) in the Men's Singles Sectional Play in lawn bowls. This is his final match in singles category. He's already out of semifinal contention after losing his last two games. Hamada is also out of contention too.

Bindyarani is now a double CWG medallist. But let's not forget the performance put up by Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade LAWAL. She was in a league of her own. She broke a Commonwealth snatch record (103kg) while in clean and jerk too she broke Games record (126kg). Overall, she lifted 229 kg, which is also a Games record. She lifted 14kg more than second-placed Anna Sophie TASCHEREAU of Canada. 

There it is! India have won a sixth medal with Bindyarani Devi clinching the bronze in 58kg weightlifting. She lifted a total of 199kg (87kg in snatch and 112kg in clean and jerk).  

India's Bindyarani Devi is assured of at least a bronze medal as she lifts 112kg in her second attempt while England's Eliza Pratt fails to lift 113kg in her last attempt.

Things have got very interesting. England's Eliza Pratt lifts 109kg. Then Bindyarani's 110kg lift does not go according to plan as her lift is deemed to have broken the rules. This is dramatic with a posdium finish in line!

The main contenders are here. England's Eliza Pratt has lifted 106kg in her first attempt. The 19-year-old will go for 109kg in her second attempt. Her and Bindyarani's best lift in Snatch was the same - 87kg. Bindyarani will attempt 113kg. If she does it, she will be in a great position to assure herself a bronze medal.

As we wait for Bindyarani Devi's lift, here's a look at the other medals events for India that will begin after midnight:

As of now, India's Bindyarani Devi will attempt 113kg same as second-placed Canada's Ann Sophie. England's Eliza Pratt, who is third with Bindyarani after the snatch round, is attempting 106kg. Current leader Rafiatu Folashade LAWAL will go with 110kg in her first attempt.

Here's how the standing looks after the snatch record:

 

Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade LAWAL has broken the CWG record again with a 100kg lift. Hold on! She betters it even further and lifts 103kg. She is on the way to gold as of now! She has taken a massive 9kg over the second-placed Canada's Anna Sophie TASCHEREAU.

Canada's Ann Sophie TASCHEREAU failed to lift 94kg in her first two attempts. But she does it in the third attempt - it's a Games record. Now, it's time for Rafiatu Folashade LAWAL. And she sucessfully lifts 95kg. She has taken the lead with a new Games record.

Currently, England's Eliza Pratt and India's Bindyarani Devi are joint third with lifts of 87kg each considering Canada's Ann Sophie and Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade are attempting over 90kg. Fingers crossed!

England's Eliza Pratt successfully lifts 84kg in her second attempt while Australia's Ashley Kolomoisky also lifts the same weight, but it's her third attempt. Bindyarani Devi has lifted 85kg in her second attempt. 

Bindyarani Devi has successfully lifted 83kg and after her England's Eliza Pratt fails to lift 84kg in her first attempt. Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade And Canada's Ann Sophie will attempt 90kg and 93kg respectively.

As we wait for Bindya Rani's first lift, let's take a look at the events that India will compete this evening (And there are quite a few)!

After Bindyarani's event, first up would be Putul Sonowal in Lawn bowls at 10:05pm followed by Sakshi Choudhary [vs Lethabo Modukanele (Botswana)] in Women's 51kg boxing Round of 16 at 10:30pm. 

Canada's Ann Sophie Taschereau will start with 93kg, Nigeria's Rafiatu Lawal with 90kg. However, this is provisional list. It can be upgraded/changed as the event progresses. 

And the women's 58kg weightlifitng final starts! The 27-year-old Bindyarani Devi is a silver medallist from the last CWG. Today, she has set her first attempt in snatch at 85kg. This is the third heaviest among all competitors.

Next up for India is the 27-year-old  Bindyaranai Devi. She won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a total lift of 202 kg and will be expected to win another medal for India. 

Gyaneshwari Yadav, the 23-year-old from Bhondiya village in Chhattisgarh, is an assistant sub-inspector in state police. Her father was a bodybuilder but gave up his dreams due to financial constraints. He works as a electrician now,  

There it is! GYANESHWARI YADAV is a CWG silver medal winner! The first medal for India today, and fifth overall. She lifted a total of 199 kg (88kg in snatch and 111 in clean and jerk). The gold went to Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih with a total lift of 206 kg (93kg and 113kg) - a Commonwealth Games record. Canada's Rebeka Groulx is the bronze medal winner.  

India's Protistha Samanta finished seventh in the women's vault final of artistic gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games on Monday. The 22-year-old from West Bengal, who had qualified seventh for the eight-woman final, averaged 12.883 after scoring 12.700 on her first vault and 12.666 on her second.

Canada's Lia-Monica Fontaine clinched the gold medal with a commanding display. Fontaine, the top qualifier, successfully retained her lead in the final, averaging 14.000 from scores of 14.000 and 13.600.

England's Abigail Martin claimed the silver medal with 13.799, while Wales' Abigail Roper took bronze with 13.433. 

Nigeria's Onome Omolola DIDIH successfully lifts 105kg to hold her top spot. Gyaneshwari responds with clean and jerk Games record of 110kg. But it may not be enough for a gold, as the Nigerian star also list 110kg in second attempt. There is still a diffence of 8kg.

In Women's Vault Final WOMEN'S VAULT FINAL Protistha SAMANTA is in action. And she comes up with a score of 12.883, which will not be enough for a medal.

The clean and jerk round has started. In the next 40 minutes, we will get to know if India will win its second gold medal in weightlifting or not. Current leader Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih has listed 100kg (as of yet) as her first attempt while Gyaneshwari will attempt 103 kg.

Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih is firmly on pole to get the gold in 53kg weightlifting event after the end of the snatch round. Her third attempt of 93 kg is a Commonwealth Games record. India's Gyaneshwari is currently placed second with a best lift of 88kg. Canada's Rebeka Groulx is third with a best attempt of 83kg.

Meanwhile, Ankush has quite comfortably negated the challenge of the Antigua boxer Zalaan JAN to storm into the quarter-finals. He is one win away from a coveted medal. 

Gyaneshwari Yadav lift 82kg in her first attempt. She is in medal contention. Nigeria's Onome Omolola DIDIH responds with a 85kg lift in her first attempt, that's a Games record. 

The second round goes to Ankush again. He looks primed to enter the quarter-finals. His movement has been nimble, and he took full advantage of Zalaan Jan's loose defence to land a couple of punches in Round 2. Again, it's a 5-0 verdict.

In the boxing ring, Ankush has taken the Rd 1 with a 5:0 verdict in Men's 80kg Round of 16 against the Antigua and Barbuda boxer. He used his better reach to good effect to land a couple of solid punches.

In the Men's 80kg Round of 16, Ankush will fight fron the red corner while Zalaan Jan (Antigua and Barbuda) is in the blue corner. 

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea's Loa Dika Toua has been eliminated. She failed to lift any of her weight so far. Australia's Brenna Mae Kean's is the leader as of now with a best lift of 73kg.

As we wait for Gyaneshwari, it's time for Ankush vs Zalaan Jan (Antigua and Barbuda) in Men's 80kg Round of 16 in boxing.

Gyaneshwari Yadav's event has started. There are 10 competitors. Gyaneshwari's first attempt is 83kg, so it will be a long wait before she comes on stage. It is almost reminiscent of how Mirabai Chanu performed. Her listed weight was higher than anyone else's in her group.

Gyaneshwari Yadav has listed 83kg in snatch while her first attempt in clean and jerk will be 103kg. Both are the heaviest among all. She is clearly going for gold here. She is the silver medallist at the Asian Weightlifting Championship.

Next up for India is Gyaneshwari Yadav, who is set to compete in the women's 53kg weightlifting final. She will be eyeing India's fourth medal in the discipline. India have so far won one gold and two silver medals in weightlifting. Gyaneshwari will be aiming for gold.

Jamaica's Tajay GAYLE (8:10m) and St Vincent and The Grenadines' Uroy Ryan (8.04m) were better than Sreeshankar (8:01m) in the qualification. Those three were the only ones to cross the automatic qualification mark in long jump.

Great news from long jump! After Murali Sreeshankar, Lokesh Sathaynathan has qualified for the final too. His best attempt was 7.77m. Out of three attampts, two were not counted as he overstepped. He qualified with the seventh best distance. Meanwhile, Murali Sreeshankar has been displaced as the best jumper in qualification round. 

The third round ends. It is time for the result. AND the winner is Sachin! He has entered the quarter-finals! He looked technically a lot better. 

The second round also goes Sachin's way. After the initial scratchy start Sachin has looked a lot better. He is ducking well and forcing Hewitt to open up.

Sachin has taken Rd 1 with a 4:1 verdict. This is good and will give him much needed confidence. Hewitt was the faster of the two initially but Sachin managed to land a couple of heavy blows towards the end. 

And Sachin's bout starts! He is in the red corner while Hewitt is fighting from the blue corner. The England boxer looks to be the more aggressive of the two. The Indian is yet to land a solid punch but defensively looks decent. It might be a split decision in Rd 1.

Meanwhile, Lokesh Sathayanthan is still in action in the long jump qualification round, but the focus now shifts to the boxing ring, where Sachin Siwach will face England's William Hewitt in the men's 60kg Round of 16.

Meanwhile, good news is coming from the pool. India's Swaitk Patil has qualified for the men's 100m Breaststroke SB9 final. He finished sixth overall (1:15.85) among 10 competitors in the heats. The rules state that the eight fastest swimmers from the heats qualify for the final. The remainder are eliminated. His final is later today at 12:02 AM.

Lokesh Satyanathan in with a great chance. He jumped 7.77m in his first attempt and is currently on top of Group B. Combined he has the fourth best jump now if we look at the overall numbers. Only India's Murali Sreeshankar has qualified for the final officially. All athletes meeting the Qualification Standard 8m (Q) or at least 12 best performers (q) advance to the Final. 

Lokesh Satyanathan will soon be in action in Men's Long Jump Qualifying Group B. He will be the last to take the first attempt. All athletes meeting the Qualification Standard 8m (Q) or at least 12 best performers (q) advance to the Final

Theoritically, India can return with double digit medal tally today. Indian weightlifters will be in back in focus in athletics too, there are several top name who are in action.

TEJAS SHIRSE IN FINAL!

After a shaky start, Tejas recovers in time to take third place! Samuel Bennett of England is first in Heat 1 with a time of 13.20s, Jerome Campbell of Jamaica second with 13.33s, while Tejas Ashok Shirse is third with 13.76s. Tejas' personal best is 13.27s, He will hope to go under that mark in the 110m hurdles final at 2:15 AM!

Soon, Tejas Shirse will be in action Men's 110m Hurdles Heats. There will only be two heats. Shirse is in Heat 1. In total there are 16 competitors. First 3 in each heat (Q) and the next 2 fastest (q) advance to the final. 

Heat 9 is over in 100m Round 1. Gurindervir Singh, India's fastest man, has been knocked out. After the 9th heat, Gurindervir has dropped to 20th with a timing of 10.39 seconds. Only the top-17 will through to the semifinals.

Gurindervir has dropped down to the eleventh spot in the overall tally, with two runners faster than him in Heat 6. Another five heats to go. It's looking increasingly difficult for him.

Another brilliant piece of news from Glasgow! Sajan Prakash finished Heat 2 in second place with a time of 1:58.59, below his PB of 1:57.09. But, the effort is enough for him to clock the seventh-fastest time overall. HE HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL.

Gurindervir Singh is now the ninth-fastest overall in the men's 100m heats. Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati dominated Heat 5 with a blistering 10.00s finish, while Jersey's Jamie Oldham took second in 10.41s, leaving Gurindervir’s 10.39s mark intact as he pushes for a semi-final spot. It's going to be tough for Gurindervir to finish among the top 10 sprinters from here on. 

In Men's Long Jump, India's Murali Sreeshankar has earned direct qualification with a leap of 8.01 meters. He was the first one in the event, and he made his first attempt count. Brilliant news for India!

Gurindervir is eighth-fastest so far, but we have another seven heats to go. Remember, only the 10 fastest runners go through to the next round.

Gurindervir Singh finishes second with a time of 10.30 seconds. Jamaica's Rohan Watson tops Heat 4 with a time of 10.13 seconds.

Wales' Jeremiah Azu has come out on top of Heat 3 with a time of 10.10 seconds. Gurindervir Singh, who is next up, needs to be at his best to qualify.

In Heat 2, it's Ghana's Abdul-Rasheed Saminu who has come out on top with a time of 10.01 seconds. It's his season best.

The results from Heat 1 are out. Nigeria's Favour Oghene Tejiri Ashe has topped with a time of 10.10 seconds. 

Gurindervir Singh is a part of Heat 4. There are a total of 11 heats in the men's 100m event. A total of seven athletes have been given a bye into the semifinals, while the other ten will come from the eleven heats today. There will be no automatic qualification. The fastest ten sprinters from the eleven heats will enter the next round.
