The Indian women's kabaddi team got their Asian Games 2026 campaign underway with a commanding 42-21 victory over Bangladesh in their Group A encounter.

After taking a comfortable 21-10 lead at half-time, the Indian women maintained their dominance in the second half to seal an emphatic 21-point win and make a perfect start to their title defence.

India will next face Iran on Wednesday in a crucial Group A clash before taking on Japan on Thursday.

The Indian women's kabaddi team leads Bangladesh 21-10 at half-time in their Group A clash at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium. India gained a strong lead through a combination of sharp raiding and disciplined defence.

The defending champions are in complete command, leading Bangladesh 17-6 with a little over four minutes left in the first half. It's been a clinical display from the Indian women, who are edging closer to their third successive victory at the Asian Games 2026.

India beat Pakistan 3-0 in men's table tennis Group F tie. Harmeet Desai, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Payas Jain all won in straight games.

Payas Jain leads 2-0 against Muhammad Khan and is on the brink of sealing the men's table tennis Group F tie for India. The Indian paddlers have been outstanding today, producing a clinical response after yesterday's surprise setback. One more game for Payas, and India will complete a dominant victory over their arch-rivals.

After Harmeet Desai's dominant win, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran followed it up with a straight-games victory over Abbas Khan, winning 11-1, 11-8, 11-9. India now lead Pakistan 2-0 in the men's table tennis Group F tie.

Next up is Payas Jain vs Muhammad Khan, with Pakistan needing a win to keep the contest alive. One more victory and India will wrap up the tie.

After cruising to an 11-1 victory in the opening game, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has faced a tougher challenge in the second. The Indian star leads 9-7 and is just two points away from taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match against Pakistan's Abbas Khan.

India's Aryan registered an impressive victory over Afghanistan's Shahzada Safi to reach the quarter-finals of the men's 56kg wushu competition. He now stands one win away from assuring India a medal at the Asian Games 2026.

India's Roshibina Devi will be in action soon in Wushu as she takes on Bangladesh's Most Shika Khatun in the pre-quarterfinals of the women's 60kg event. 

Who would've imagined that? Spain football legend Carles Puyol is handing over medals at the swimming ceremony. This was totally unexpected!

Reminder: India’s first and arguably the biggest medal hope comes tomorrow when the women’s cricket team takes on Sri Lanka in the final. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side is coming into the tournament on the back of a triumphant Asia Cup performance. Will the Asian Games be the same?

That’s that for India’ Srihari Nataraj in the Men’s 50m Backstroke final. He finishes 10th in the event with a timing of 25.52. It’s China’s Xi Jiayu who clinches the gold medal with a time of 24.04.

Next up for us is the Men's men's 50m backstroke final featuring India's Srihari Nataraj. India has never won an Asian Games medal in this event. Will Srihari pull off a first for the country today?

Kidambi Srikanth, ranked 37th in the world, takes the second game too without breaking much sweat. He remains the dominant player and wraps up the win 21-12 in 14 minutes. He takes the match 2-0 and, in process, the Indian team takes the contest 3-0.

Srikanth has began his round on a dominating note against Jumar Al Amin. In the first game, Srikanth registered a comfortable win by 21-15. If Srikanth takes the second game, India will win this match. 

After Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty's win, India's Kidambi Srikanth has entered the court for his round. He is up against Jumar Al Amin of Bangladesh. 

Ayush Shetty faces a tougher fight in the second game from Gourab Singha but continues to keep an upper hand. He wraps up the second game 21-13 to take the match 2-0. India have one last match to go in this contest.

As was expected from Ayush, it’s an utterly dominant show for him in the first game.  He takes the first game 21-4. That’s the gulf in talent between the two players. The second game is expected to be more of the same.

Ayush Shetty is the next one up for India in the men’s team badminton event. He is up against Bangladesh’s Sourab Singha. This is expected to be another straightforward win for India.

Ayman Ibn Jaman does put up a fight in the second game, but Lakshya Sen is no pushover. A better game from a competitive perspective of competition but Lakshya takes the game 21-12 to wrap up the tie. India 1-0 up!

Lakshya Sen starts the proceedings for India. He is up against Bangladesh’s Ayman Ibn Jaman. Remember, India need to win 3 matches to register a team win. Lakshya is the outright favourite in his contest.

Another dominant finish by India in women’s hockey as Salima Tete-led side secures a whopping 17-1 victory over Indonesia. That’s 2 wins in 2 matches for the Indian eves in Pool B.

India are next up in the men's team badminton, with the first match against Bangladesh. Here's what the line-up looks like for both teams:

India couldn't quite hit the 50-point mark, but they still produced a dominant 49-24 win over Japan in men's kabaddi. That's quite a convincing way to start the Asian Games campaign.

Ahead 40-12, India have turned up the heat in the second half, bringing on their heavy artillery in Pawan Sehrawat, Arjun Deshwal, and Aslam Inamdar. The trio engaged in a thrilling internal rivalry to see who could haul back the most raid points. While that mini-contest provided plenty of entertainment, the match itself proved entirely one-sided, highlighting the immense gulf in class between the two sides.

Sunelita Toppo produced a deft deflection off Navneet Kaur's penalty corner strike to wrap up a dominant second quarter for India. The Indian team completely controlled the opening half, storming to a commanding lead thanks to braces from Sunelita, Deepika, Lalremsiami, and Rutuja Pisal, alongside a goal from Sakshi Rana.

Here's an explanation of what happened with Suchika Tariyal: 

An agonising technicality has seen Suchika Tariyal miss out on the MMA final, despite not losing her semi-final contest on the mat. Following an official protest, backed by a non-refundable $1,000 fee covered by the Federation and Nikhil Kunder, the bout was referred to arbitration. Instead of the usual three-judge panel, a panel of ten judges reviewed all available footage and officially declared the contest a draw.

However, tournament rules dictate that tied bouts are decided by body weight. Because Suchika weighed 700 grams more than her Singaporean opponent Victoria Teo, the decision ultimately went to Singapore, leaving Suchika with a bronze medal after a heartbreaking turn of events.

What a thrilling end to the Men's 10m Air Rifle Individual final. Rudrankksh would be a little disappointed that he let the occasion get the better of him in the end. It could've been a gold medal for India but a double podium finish is not bad at all.

India's shooters delivered a double-medal swoop in the men's 10m air rifle individual final. Former world champion Rudrankksh Patil clinched the bronze medal, while Himanshu Dhillon put on a stellar performance to bag the silver. The individual success follows their team silver earlier in the day alongside Parth Mane, capping off a remarkable day for India's air rifle contingent at the range.  

Shifting focus to women's hockey, India take on Indonesia in their second group-stage match. The team will be eager to maintain their winning momentum following a crushing 19-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Sunday's opener.

Meanwhile, Suchika's MMA coach has challenged the referee's decision that awarded the bout to her Singaporean opponent.

"I’m in the arbitration zone. We have challenged the decision. The fight was a draw and went into overtime. The overtime was only 1 min. The result was given to Singapore, which we have challenged," the coach told NDTV.

BRONZE FOR INDIA!

Both fighters were visibly exhausted as the final bell approached, landing few clean punches or kicks in a razor-thin contest. While both Suchika Tariyal and Singapore's Victoria Teo were confident they had done enough to claim victory, it was Teo who secured the decision to advance to the final.

Distraught by the judge's ruling, Suchika refused to join the referee in the center of the ring. Though securing a bronze medal marks a superb achievement for the Indian mixed martial artist, her visible tears and refusal to celebrate underscored her deep disappointment as her coach moved in to offer consolation.

Sumit played a tactical third round, patiently biding his time with the advantage clearly in his favour and focusing on avoiding any major damage. Landing the cleaner, more effective blows, he swept the final round 5-0 to seal a convincing victory by unanimous decision and secure his place in the Round of 16.

Representing India in the 70kg division, Sumit Kundu is looking to secure an early win to advance into the Round of 16. He is up against Bunjong Sinsiri, a seasoned Thai boxer and Paris Olympian who provides a tough early hurdle in the draw.

That’s that in Sepaktakraw for India, in the men’s team Regu Group B match. Japan win the thrilling contest 2-1.

It's time for the showdown! India's Suchika Triyal is up against Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon in the women's traditional 60kg semifinal. Can Suchika reach the final?

Up next for India is the Mixed Martial Arts clash between Suchika Tariyal and Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon in the women's traditional 60kg semifinal. Remember, Suchika has already assured the country of a medal. However, hopefully, she won't have to settle for a bronze.

India's Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena fell 5-1 to South Korea's Park Jaekyu and Kim Yeon-Hwa in their final group match, securing a second-place finish in the group. Despite the setback, the Indian pair have advanced to the Round of 16, scheduled for 9:00 am.

Dhanush Suresh missed out on the men's 100m breaststroke final, finishing 22nd overall with a time of 1:03.46. His elimination leaves Srihari Nataraj, who qualified for the men's 50m backstroke, as the sole Indian swimmer in today's finals.

India's Raiza Dhillon makes a perfect start on the opening day of the three-day Women's Skeet Qualifying, topping the early standings with a flawless 25 hits from 25 shots. Meanwhile, teammate Parinaaz Dhaliwal has also begun strongly, hitting 23 out of 23 targets so far.

Sreeja Akula proves once again why she is a class above the rest. Pakistan's Fatima Khan was no match for her as Sreeja secured an 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 win.

With the win, India have beaten Pakistan 3-0 in the Group F match.

China finished with a team total of 1899.0, setting a new Qualification World Record. The total betters the previous mark, set by China itself in 2025, by 0.6 points.

India get another Asian Games 2026 silver as men's 10m Air Rifle team finishes 2nd. Two shooters qualify for individual final. Himanshu Dhillon, Parth Mane and Rudrankksh Patil have taken India's medal tally to three in Asian Games 2026. 

Parth Mane completed his six qualification series with a score of 628.3, leaving him in 11th place and out of contention for the final. Meanwhile, Rudrankksh Patil turned in a solid performance of 631.8 to finish in third, comfortably booking his place in the final alongside Himanshu, who is expected to finish in top 8 too.

Japan claimed the first set 15-12 in the second match of their Group B encounter against India. With these regu matches played as a best-of-three, India must mount a comeback to capitalise on Akash's heroics from the opening tie.

Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena secured their second consecutive group-stage victory, overcoming Mongolia's Bud Nyamdorj and Enkhkhuslen Ganbaatar in straight games (4-2, 4-1, 4-1, 4-0, 5-3). Maintaining their flawless record with two wins from two matches, the pair now turn their attention to a high-stakes clash against Korea.

China's Sheng Lihao put on a blistering display, completing all six series in roughly half an hour to finish with a score of 635.4 and shatter the Asian qualification record by 0.9 points. While the performance easily showcased his dominance, it fell just 2.5 points short of his own astounding world record of 637.9.

Both Rudranksh Patil and Himanshu Dhillon are in the top 8 at present, with identical scores after Series 4. While Rudranksh has begun Series 5, Himanshu is yet to. Can they both hang onto a spot each in top 8?

Parth Mane, on the other hand, is placed 17th at the moment.
 

Srihari Nataraj clinched a spot in the men's 50m backstroke final, qualifying in joint 9th place among the top 10 swimmers. Competing in their heat, Nataraj finished third with a time of 25.37 seconds ( 0.57 behind the leader) to squeeze into the final as the last qualifier.

Fellow countryman Rishabh Das placed fourth in the same heat, clocking 25.41 seconds to finish just behind Nataraj and earn a place as one of the reserves for the final.

The Indian women's team secures a dominant win over Pakistan in the first match. Aleena Khan is no match for Sutirgha Mukherjee.

We are underway in the men's 10m Air Rifle Shooting qualification and team final. India are being represented by Rudrankksh Patil, Parth Mane, and Himanshu Dhillon. The women's team earned a silver medal in the same event yesterday. What's in store today?

India have maintained their upper hand in Sepaktakraw too, securing a 2-0 victory over Japan in the opening match, winning 15-13 and 15-9.

In Wushu, India's Nyeman Wangsu couldn't quite produce the desired result in the women's Changquan final. She finished 15th in a field of 16 athletes.
