Shuttler PV Sindhu, participating in her maiden Olympics, today made history as she dominated Japan's Nozomi Okuhara to enter women's Badminton final.
Sindhu, 21, is now assured to win at least silver when she faces World Number 1 Carolina Marin of Spain tomorrow. This would be India's second medal so far in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
As Sindhu defeated her Japanese rival in straight sets (21-19, 21-10) in the semi-finals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first to congratulate her, tweeting an old photo of him with the shuttler.
Sindhu, after her big win, told NDTV that she is now gunning for Gold. "I didn't take it easy at any point. I feel she played a good game, there were many rallies. The final will be my biggest match. Marin is a tough opponent and I will give my best," she said.
