Ace wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt on Tuesday threw his weight behind beleaguered wrestler Narsingh Yadav, saying he had full faith in Yadav, and that the matter should be investigated thoroughly.
The Olympic medal winner made the comments following Narsingh Yadav's recent positive dope test, which came barely a few days before the start of the Rio Olympics. The Indian contingent's preparations for Rio have been hit by controversy following the positive dope tests of Yadav and shot putter Inderjeet Singh.Â
Narsingh Yadav has pleaded innocence so far, claiming that his food had been spiked with the banned substance he was tested positive of. Yadav's roommate and sparring partner at SAI Sonepat, Sandeep Tulsi Yadav, has also tested positive of the same substance.
Yogeshwar Dutt took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the latest development.
(I am very sad about the state of wrestling. This matter should be investigated. I am sure that Narsingh cannot do something like this.)
Earlier, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) also gave its backing to Narsingh Yadav, saying there was a clear case of sabotage against the wrestler. The body urged the Sports Ministry and top officials in the government to help Narsingh's case.
Narsingh will get a final chance to prove his innocence when he faces the NADA disciplinary committee on Wednesday.
