Usain Bolt Clinches Hat-Trick Of 100m Golds

Jamaican sprinting legend Usain Bolt became the first person in history to win three successive gold medals in men's 100m race

After days of waiting, people were getting to watch Usain Bolt run the iconic 100m race at the 2016 Rio Olympics (All images courtesy AFP)

As usual, the Jamaican sprinting legend did not get the best of starts with American Justin Gatlin leading at midway stage

But Bolt ran faster than anyone between the 50m to 100m range

And convincingly took the lead by 80m

And the 29-year-old knew he had won the race even before it got over

The King of Sprint became the first person in history to win three successive gold medals in 100m at the Olympic Games

Gatlin, Bolt's biggest rival and 2004 Athens Games champion, finished second with Canadian Andre de Grasse finishing third

Though Bolt did not break any world or Olympic record, he ran his season's best in a time of 9.81 seconds

And as always, he performed his 'lightning bolt' pose in front of the Rio crowd at the Olympic Stadium

Bolt had a timing of 10.07 seconds in the Heats and 9.86 in the semi-finals

With the 100m gold in his pocket, Bolt will also vie for the 200m and 4x100m yellow metals at Rio
