A fan caught the headlines for all the wrong reasons after he breached the security barriers to hug Virat Kohli mid-match during the second T20I against Afghanistan in Indore on Sunday. Pictures of the same incident went viral on social media and the man was detained by the police for breaching security arrangements. After detaining him, cops took the young man, who entered the ground by climbing the fence of the spectators' gallery, to Tukoganj police station. News agency PTI had reported that the man was interrogated by the cops.
However, the man was released by the police on the eve of the third and final game on Tuesday.
On his return from the police station, the fan received a hero's welcome from his friends and family.
After a hiatus of more than 14 months, Team India's talisman batter Virat Kohli was back in T20I colours on Sunday, playing a handy knock to help his team beat Afghanistan in the second T20I in Indore.
The crowd inside the Holkar Stadium gave a special ovation to Kohli everytime he touched the ball or collected a boundary.
While no one has ever doubted Kohli's intent and desire while batting, the former India captain came out to bat with a different mindset as India blew away Afghanistan in a rather chilly evening in Indore.
Striking at 181.25, Kohli raced his way to 29 off just 15 balls before a mistimed shot ended his innings prematurely. He cracked five fours during his stay in the middle before being caught at mid-off.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube smashed half-centuries as India thrashed Afghanistan by six wickets in the second T20I.
Jaiswal, who hit 68 off 34 balls, returned to the team along with Kohli after missing the series opener.
Jaiswal put on key partnerships including a 92-run stand with left-handed partner Dube, who hit an unbeaten 63, as India chased down their victory target with 26 balls to spare and take an unbeatable 2-0 lead.
India have been unbeaten at home for 15 consecutive T20I series.
