Dusseldorf:
India paid a heavy price for conceding a last minute penalty stroke as world championship Germany drew 3-3 to clinch the title in the DSD Four Nation Tournament at the Deutscher Sportklub on Sunday.
Germany won the trophy by virtue of scoring more goals as the goal difference ratio between both teams was even. Germany scored twelve times as against India's ten.
The match, billed as a virtual final after both the teams had won their earlier league encounters, began in bright sunshine with the Indians sparkling as their forwards and the midfield held sway against the hosts.
The Indians dropped Sandeep Michael and Kanwalpreet Singh from the bench, bringing in mercurial striker Dhanraj Pillay and Bimal Lakra.
Deepak Thakur, Prabhjot Singh and Gagan Ajit Singh scored for the Indians, while Christoph Bechmann and Christopher Zeller sounded the board for the hosts in a fast paced encounter. (PTI)
