The biggest match of the day was five-time world champion Rafael Nadal versus American John Isner.

A grueling 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-4 match eventually went in favour of the Spaniard but the resilience of Isner was well appreciated.

The real winner of the day was Virginie Razzano of France who won hearts despite her 3-6,1-6 loss. She dedicated her match to her fiance who had died just eight days ago.
