After topping all 3 practice sessions, Nico Rosberg qualified in pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix. The track is the hardest to overtake on in Formula One, giving Mercedes has a great chance to clinch a first win of the season on Sunday.

Teammate Lewis Hamilton qualified second, and the Brit will hope for a Mercedes 1-2 at the race on Sunday.

Red Bull has won the last three Monaco GPs - all from pole - but this time defending champion Sebastian Vettel will start from third ahead of teammate and last year's winner Mark Webber.

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa will start from the back of the grid after a heavy crash in the third practice session. He would anyway have incurred a five-place grid penalty a change in gearbox.

Mercedes have started the last four races on pole. However their race pace has let them down, and will hope for a change in fortunes in Monaco.
