Zinedine Zidane is probably as fed up of the speculation as everybody else, which is why he's going live on French television to give his version. But irrespective of what he says, the matter is now also in the hands of FIFA who have launched a disciplinary enquiry. FIFA president Sepp Blatter says the Golden Ball award may have been decided by journalists but that FIFA has a moral right to intervene if it finds that the ethics of a sport have been compromised. That probably means that unless Zidane has a good enough reason to explain his head butt he could lose his Golden Ball award. The good enough reason might be that Zidane was racially abused, something he's faced in the past because of the Algerian background, but Marco Materazzi, the man at the receiving end of the head butt has already denied that he called Zidane a terrorist."It was the kind of insult you will hear dozens of times. I didn't call Zidane a terrorist and certainly didn't mention his mother. I am ignorant, I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is. My only terrorist is my ten month old daughter," Materazzi who admit to insulting Zidane is quoted as saying. "I held his shirt for a few seconds. He looked at me with super arrogance and said if you really want my shirt, you can have it later. That is when I shot back with the insult," he added. Materazzi may not have said it himself but reports suggest that his abuse of Zidane involved some unsavoury comments about Zizou's wife. Certainly that's considered the most normal way of provocation in most sporting arenas. So even as the world awaits Zidane's version of what prompted him to lose his head and earn the 14th Red Card of his career, it's clear that his fans and sponsors have already forgiven him. Adidas, his main sponsors, are planning to launch a website www.mercizidane.fr, so that his fans can log on and support President Zizou.
