On the eve of Manchester United's Champions League match against Bayern Munich yesterday, Sir Bobby Charlton paid tribute to his eight colleagues who had died."They were lost but their lives were not in vain. They have been an inspiration to everybody that has supported Manchester United and they are part of our history, and we can't change that and we wouldn't want to change that," said Charlton. The young team involved in the crash were dubbed the 'Busby Babes' in honour of manager Sir Matt Busby, another United legend, who also survived the disaster. The plane crashed in February 1958 when it failed to take off after re-fuelling while bringing the team home from a European Cup tie in Yugoslavia. In total 23 passengers were killed, including highly-rated England star Duncan Edwards. The ceremony also attended by Bayern Munich Vice-President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge took place in the Munich district of Kirchtrudering, where the crash occurred.
