Santos reaffirmed their title credentials and picked up their first Campeonato Brasileiro victory in nearly seven weeks thanks to the resounding thrashing of Fluminense on Saturday. Robinho and Deivid both scored twice as Vanderlei Luxemburgo's team ran out 5-0 winners. The highly-rated Robinho latched on to a long ball and gave Santos an eighth minute lead against Fluminense in Saturday's 39th round of matches from the Campeonato Brasileiro. Santos inherited the lead following Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Flamengo. They've not been impressive in recent weeks - but have still managed to take advantage of the alarming slump that previous leaders Atletico Paranaense have slipped into. So victory at the Benedito Teixeira Stadium was vital for Vanderlei Luxemburgo's side. Of course, as a former coach of the national side, Luxemburgo knows what stress is all about - others - Laerte for instance - don't cope quite so well when put under pressure. His 20th minute howler completed the scoring in the first half - it didn't take long - less than two minutes to be more accurate - for Santos to build on that lead after the interval. Deivio provided the finish, but it was the turn again of Robinho - a young man now attracting massive interest from scouts from European clubs - in the 55th minute. Fluminense have had a solid if unspectacular campaign - excepting their performance on Wednesday, where they hammered Juventude 7-1. It was to be the turn of Alexandre Gama's men to be on the wrong end of a thrashing here though. Deivio completed the scoring in the 81st minute. It finished 5-0 to Santos - with just seven games left in the season, it's a return to form at a critical time. (AP)
