With both sides set to meet in a potential title decider on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu, AFP Sports looks at their most recent achievements and what records could fall in the 227th El Clasico.
- A week after surpassing Paulino Alcantara to become Barca's all-time leading scorer in all competitions with 371 goals, Messi can also become the outright lead for goals scored in Clasicos as he is currently tied with Real legend Alfredo di Stefano on 18 from 26 appearances.
- Ronaldo moved past another significant figure in Real's history, Hungarian Ferenc Puskas, with a double against Schalke in midweek to become the club's fourth highest goalscorer of all-time on 243 goals. Amazingly, the Portuguese has need just 236 games to reach that tally.
- Messi can also become the second highest scorer in La Liga history on Sunday. The Argentine is currently just one goal behind Mexican Hugo Sanchez on 233 league goals, 19 shy of the all-time record held by Telmo Zarra.
- Ronaldo is seventh on the all-time list of goals scored in Clasicos on 12 from 20 games, but seven of those game in a record run in which he scored in six consecutive Clasicos between January and October 2012.
- Both men have scored in the same game five times; twice in La Liga and three times in the Spanish Supercup. However, Madrid have only emerged victorious once when that has happened, in the second leg of the Supercup in 2012 as both La Liga games were drawn and Barca won the other two Supercup clashes 3-2.
