Leaders PSV Eindhoven welcomed struggling Ajax to the Philips Stadium in the Eredivisie on Saturday in a match that traditionally provides one of the highlights of the Dutch domestic season. However, despite the fierce rivalry that exists between the sides, the game was surprisingly subdued throughout the first half. PSV's breakthrough came five minutes before the break. Lee Pyo-Young slipped past defender Hatem Trabelsi and his low shot was badly fumbled at the near post by Ajax 'keeper Bogdan Lobont. It was Lee's first-ever goal in the Dutch league. In control PSV began controlling the pace of the game, and their second goal came four minutes after half-time. Lee's cross found John de Jong - the striker's header left defender Maxwell flat-footed and Lobont without a chance. Ajax's best chance of the match came on the hour mark, Rafael van der Vaart pouncing on a loose ball - but his angled shot came back off the post. The result piles more pressure on Ajax coach Ronald Koeman - his side down in the unfamiliar territory of sixth place. PSV stay top on goal difference ahead of Feyenoord, and they also have a game in hand on the Rotterdam side. (AP)
