Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho signed a five-year contract, superseding the final two years of his previous contract and extending it for three more. Mourinho joined Chelsea last June, a week after leading FC Porto to the Champions League title. His initial three-year contract was reportedly worth $9.5 million. The new deal starts at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. "My heart is with Chelsea and the fantastic group of players I have. They have done a great job this season," Mourinho said yesterday. On Saturday, Chelsea won the English league title for the first time in 50 years. The Blues also won the League Cup, but the team was eliminated from the Champions League semifinals on Tuesday after losing to Liverpool 1-0 on aggregate. "I am totally behind this project and their support in achieving it means Chelsea is the place where I will be happiest in my work," Mourinho said. "I cannot imagine another club or situation where I would be happier." Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said negotiations with Mourinho began after the League Cup win in February. (AP)
