Santos midfielder Claudio Maldonado will miss the first three weeks of the Brazilian league because of a right ankle injury.Club doctors said the Chilean international injured his ankle on Sunday against Portuguesa in the last round of the Sao Paulo state championship. Santos won 2-0 to clinch the state title, its first in nearly 22 years.Maldonado will be sidelined for three weeks and will miss at least three matches in the Brazilian league, which begins Saturday. Santos, coached by Vanderlei Luxemburgo, debuts Sunday at Goias, the third-place finisher last year.Brazilian champion in 2002 and '04, Santos finished 10th last season. (AP)
