THREE-GOAL SALVO SINKS SAINTS
Three goals in eight incredible second-half minutes saw Chelsea come from 2-0 down to beat Southampton 3-2 at St. Mary's. The Blues scored in the 70th, 75th and 78th minutes; first substitute Olivier Giroud headed a Marcos Alonso cross into the bottom corner, before Eden Hazard converted Willian's low ball across goal. It was Giroud who put the icing on the cake, finding the bottom corner with a crisp half-volley after an Hazard cross had been knocked down to earth by a crowd of players. The hosts had been the better team up to that point, taking the lead in the first half when Dusan Tadic converted Ryan Bertrand's cutback following a barnstorming run from the wing back, and Jan Bednarek then half-volleyed home from a James Ward-Prowse free kick after the break. At that point the Saints were cruising, but they were soon to experience that sinking feeling.

FULL TIME SOUTHAMPTON 2 CHELSEA 3
The final whistle confirms an amazing 3-2 win for Chelsea, who keep their Champions League hopes alive while dealing Southampton's survival chances an almighty blow. Again Mark Hughes' team have failed to turn a much-improved performance into points; that's their fourth Premier League defeat in a row.
90'
WHAT A LETDOWN
Cedric Soares' floated free kick is far too easy for Courtois to come and take; that's probably it for Southampton's hopes.
90'
YELLOW CARD
Shane Long is fouled for the umpteenth time today, and this time it's Gary Cahill who picks up a booking for slicing down the jet-heeled forward.
90'
SUBSTITUTION
Manolo Gabbiadini is given a brief chance to make his mark, with Jan Bednarek retreating to the bench.
90'
SIMS DENIED
Josh Sims is so nearly the hero, getting in behind the defence on the left to go one-on-one with Courtois, who uses all of his experience to make himself huge and beat away the youngster's finish.
80'
SUBSTITUTION
Mark Hughes throws on Charlie Austin for Ward-Prowse in an effort to snatch an equaliser.
79'
Substitution
Charlie Austin (on). James Ward-Prowse (off). (Southampton)
90'
Yellow Card
Gary Cahill (Chelsea)
90'
Substitution
Manolo Gabbiadini (on). Jan Bednarek (off). (Southampton)
88'
HEAD BOY HOJBJERG
Bertrand's outswinging corner picks out Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and the midfielder's bullet header forces an agile catch from the goalkeeper. Southampton haven't given up yet.
86'
Substitution
Victor Moses (on). Eden Hazard (off). (Chelsea)
86'
SUBSTITUTION
It hasn't been one of Eden Hazard's best games, but he's done enough to make a difference. The Belgian makes way for Victor Moses for the last few minutes.
83'
Substitution
Josh Sims (on). Dusan Tadic (off). (Southampton)
83'
SUBSTITUTION
Josh Sims is handed a late runout in place of Dusan Tadic.
82'
Yellow Card
Willian (Chelsea)
82'
YELLOW CARD
Now it's Willian who gets himself booked for a late trip on Bertrand.
81'
Yellow Card
Shane Long (Southampton)
81'
YELLOW CARD
Long slides in late to hack down the speeding Pedro, thus earning himself a caution.
78'
Goal
Olivier Giroud (Chelsea)
78'
GOAL!!! CHELSEA
Oriol Romeu is harshly booked as Marcos Alonso goes down, but it actually looked like the Chelsea man was the one pulling on a shirt rather than the other way round. Willian slides the free kick to Eden Hazard, who hangs up a cross to the back post. The ball is knocked down via two heads to OLIVIER GIROUD, who arrows a half-volley into the net from 14 yards. You feel so sorry for Southampton, but what an incredible turnaround.
78'
Yellow Card
Oriol Romeu (Southampton)
75'
Goal
Eden Hazard. Assist by Willian (Chelsea)
75'
GOAL!!! CHELSEA
A spell of unrelenting pressure bears fruit for the Blues as Willian finds space on the left and supplies a low cross for EDEN HAZARD, who takes a touch before belting his shot into the roof of the net from near the penalty spot. What a comeback.
72'
HOEDT HURT
Hoedt has to receive medical attention after being buffeted by Giroud as the France striker headed home, but eventually the game is able to restart.
70'
Goal
Olivier Giroud. Assist by Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)
70'
GOAL!!! CHELSEA
The supersub strikes again! Cesc Fabregas takes a free kick from the halfway line short to Marcos Alonso, who whips a terrific cross into the penalty area, where OLIVIER GIROUD beats Wesley Hoedt to the ball and directs a firm header into the corner of the net, beyond Alex McCarthy's despairing dive.
67'
HOPE SPRINGS ANEW
Mark Hughes has to be congratulated for the way he's injected some fight into players who previously looked like they'd lost interest in Southampton. If they keep playing like this survival is very much on the cards.
65'
Yellow Card
Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)
64'
YELLOW CARD
The cards are flying now; this time it's Bertrand who loses his head and sticks up an arm to prevent Cesar Azpilicueta from taking a throw.
64'
YELLOW CARD
Hazard picks up a stupid booking for refusing to return the ball to Wesley Hoedt for a throw-in.
7'
SAINTS APPLY SOME PRESSURE
Now it's Southampton who are probing away at the opposing defence; Ryan Bertrand has managed to get in behind Davide Zappacosta a couple of times but without his crosses finding their marks.
64'
Yellow Card
Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
61'
Substitution
Pedro (on). Davide Zappacosta (off). (Chelsea)
61'
DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION
Antonio Conte has seen enough and makes two attacking changes, introducing Pedro and Olivier Giroud for Davide Zappacosta and Alvaro Morata.
61'
Substitution
Olivier Giroud (on). Alvaro Morata (off). (Chelsea)
60'
Goal
Jan Bednarek. Assist by James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
60'
GOAL!!! SOUTHAMPTON
N'Golo Kante knocks over Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg deep in Chelsea territory, and Southampton have a free kick. James Ward-Prowse loops a terrific ball all the way to the back stick, where JAN BEDNAREK gets ahead of Gary Cahill to score with a crisp half-volley. The Saints are running away with this now!
44'
Yellow Card
James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
44'
YELLOW CARD
Marcos Alonso stamps on Long's calf in an aggressive act that the ref fails to spot, and Ward-Prowse then becomes the second Saints player to be booked inside two minutes for a late lunge on Willian, clearly borne out of anger at Alonso's act.
42'
Yellow Card
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Southampton)
42'
YELLOW CARD
Hojbjerg collects the first yellow card of the afternoon for scything down Zappacosta over by the touchline.
42'
YOSHIDA ON THE RUN
Christensen barges Long over in an aerial duel, meaning it's a free kick to Southampton in an advanced position. Ward-Prowse produces an excellent ball into the box, and Yoshida connects on the run but can't hit the target.
38'
DOUBLE SAVE
James Ward-Prowse draws a desperate parry from Courtois with an edge-of-the-box drive after being set up by Long, and the rangy keeper does brilliantly to get straight back up and save the rebound from Tadic, but it turns out the latter was offside anyway.
37'
DEFENDER'S FINISH
The crowd cheer loudly as Gary Cahill tries his luck from distance and can only spoon a terrible effort way over the bar.
36'
WIDE FROM LONG
Shane Long streaks up the left wing before making his way infield and going for goal as the defenders drop off, the Irishman skewing his 25-yard strike comfortably wide of the target.
35'
HANDBAGS AT DAWN
Hojbjerg and Morata engage in a spot of shoving after the Chelsea man takes exception to a tackle, and it taks a stern lecture from Mike Dean to defuse the situation.
32'
POSSESSION PLAY
Southampton have calmed the game down with a sequence of composed passing; a canny move since the Blues were ramping up the pressure on the home goal.
29'
TRIGGER-HAPPY ZAPPACOSTA
Davide Zappacosta is shooting at every opportunity today, and this time the Italian's 20-yard effort is deflected over for a corner. Willian flights it in from the left, and Andreas Christensen just mistimes his run, charging into the net before the ball arrives for what would have been a simple finish.
27'
MORATA OFF TARGET
Zappacosta appears to shove Bertrand in the back as he heads N'Golo Kante's cross back across goal. The ref allows play to continue but it's rendered irrelevant by Morata heading over at the opposite post.
26'
THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD
Long bends his run in an attempt to stay onside and latch onto Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's through ball, but this time Azpilicueta sniffs out the danger and gets his body in he way before rolling a pass back to Thibaut Courtois.
24'
SUDDEN AWAKENING
The home fans are really raising the roof now, and their team is playing with massive confidence. It's almost like a sleeping giant has finally been woken.
21'
Goal
Dusan Tadic. Assist by Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)
21'
GOAL!!! SOUTHAMPTON
Ryan Bertrand charges onto a diagonal ball out to the left flank and holds off the challenge of Cesar Azpilicueta to make it into the penalty area. The England left back keeps his cool to cut the ball back to DUSAN TADIC, who sweeps his finish into the net from near the penalty area. Awesome stuff from Bertrand.
4'
ROUTE ONE
Chelsea look happy to test the home defence with long balls aimed up towards Alvaro Morata, but as yet the tall striker hasn't been able to get one fully under control.
56'
CHANCES COMING THICK AND FAST
Eden Hazard rifles an attempt into the side-netting, and moments later Alex McCarthy is called into action to make a diving save from Willian's 18-yard low strike. It looks like this should be an open second half.
54'
LONG THREATENING
Shane Long sprints after a long ball and turns back inside Christensen, who looks like he might have hauled the forward down inside the box. Long springs back to his feet and aims for the top corner with a shot that Courtois has to tip over the crossbar.
52'
FINAL FAILURE
It's Chelsea who've had control of the ball so far in this half, but they look toothless in the final third. Changes seem likely to come sooner rather than later.
49'
ANY TOUCH WILL DO
Maya Yoshida manages to shove his body in between Thibaut Courtois and the ball as a corner fizzes in, but all he can do is knock it down to the ground, where Andreas Christensen clears it away.
46'
NOWHERE NEAR
Chelsea are on the attack immediately; Alvaro Morata plays a one-two with Willian just outside the penalty area, but the striker's sidefooted shot is nowhere near hitting the target. That really was an abysmal effort.
46'
SECOND HALF
The teams are back out and the second half is underway, with neither manager having made any changes at the break.
45'
BERTRAND BREAKS THE LINES
It's been a fairly even game so far, but it's Southampton who have made the breakthrough with a 21st-minute goal superbly created by Ryan Bertrand. Running onto a diagonal pass, the left back streaked up the wing and into the penalty area before producing a perfect cutback for Dusan Tadic to sweep home from close range. The Saints created a second decent opening when James Ward-Prowse saw a fierce drive parried by Thibaut Courtois, but it took until the closing minutes for Chelsea to respond in kind, Alex McCarthy having to tip a deflected Cesc Fabregas effort around the post and Andreas Christensen flicking a header just wide. Stay tuned for all the action after the break.
45'
HALF TIME SOUTHAMPTON 1 CHELSEA 0
We've reached the break here at St. Mary's, where Southampton are continuing their recent upturn in form and lead Chelsea by a goal to nil.
45'
DANGEROUS DEFLECTION
Fabregas' long-range effort takes a wicked deflection to spin up and almost into the top corner, but McCarthy is alert enough to backpedal and tip it wide. Chelsea take the corner short again and eventually make space for a cross that Christensen flicks wide with a diving header.
19'
MCCARTHY STANDS FIRM
An Oriol Romeu foul gifts Willian the chance to flight a free kick into the penalty area. As the cross comes in, Morata tries but just fails to make contact, and McCarthy isn't distracted by the forward's movement, the Saints keeper making a calm save.
18'
SUSTAINED SHUT-OUT
We haven't seen a clear chance created so far, but that owes as much to the disciplined defending on display from both sides as it does to any lack of attacking acumen.
15'
BLUNT BLUES
Chelsea work a short corner routine that creates space for Zappacosta to have a crack, but the wing back's effort is blocked. The ball rolls to Cesc Fabregas, whose dinked cross from the right proves too easy for Alex McCarthy to catch.
11'
LONG STAMPED
Shane Long is left in pain after Gary Cahill stamps on his foot, but the contact looked accidental and the ref shows no interest.
10'
DODGY DEFENDING
Morata takes advantage of an error by Maya Yoshida by seizing the loose ball and quickly passing to Eden Hazard, who jinks along the 18-yard line but sees his eventual shot blocked by Wesley Hoedt.
1'
KICK OFF
The referee gets us underway here at St. Mary's.

Antonio Conte has made some changes to his back line, with Andreas Christensen and Davide Zappacosta replacing Antonio Rudiger and Victor Moses. Ross Barkley retuns from a hamstring problem to make the bench, but David Luiz remains on the treatment table.

SOUTHAMPTON TEAM NEWS
Jan Bednarek comes in for Jack Stephens, who starts a three-match suspension after being sent off against Arsenal, and Mark Hughes keeps faith with the rest of the team who started that game, with Shane Long having overcome an ankle injury. Mario Lemina has recovered from an illness in time to make the bench.

SOUTHAMPTON V CHELSEA
It's not looking good for Chelsea's hopes of playing in the Champions League next season, and at this rate Blues fans will start hoping that Liverpool win the competition in order to grant the Premier League an extra place. The Blues are a forlorn ten points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with just six games to go, and further mistakes could see Arsenal supplant them in the Europa League spot. Southampton remain in the relegation zone but could leapfrog Crystal Palace on goal difference if they can summon a win today. New boss Mark Hughes was encouraged by last weekend's improved performance against Arsenal so will be keen to go for a valuable win against wounded opponents. Join me, Luke Ostler, at 12.30pm BST for all the action from St. Mary's.
