CARRICK CREATES ON FINAL APPEARANCE
A Marcus Rashford strike proved enough to settle a slow-paced last game of the season, with Manchester United beating Watford 1-0 at Old Trafford. 33 minutes were on the clock when Michael Carrick, making his final appearance of a gilded career, chipped a pass over the defence for Juan Mata, who cut the ball back for an easy finish for Rashford. The Hornets summoned little resistance apart from a Richarlison header that Sergio Romero somehow clawed off the line, and most of the players on the pitch looked very much on the beach already. Not many claims staked for a place in United's FA Cup final line-up.

83'
LONG RANGER
Daryl Janmaat takes aim from distance but fails to trouble Romero.
81'
ANTICLIMAX
The ball falls kindly for Abdoulaye Doucoure on the edge of the penalty area, only for the midfielder to fail to trouble Sergio Romero with a lacklustre strike.
77'
Substitution
Ander Herrera (on). Daley Blind (off). (Manchester United)
77'

TOO SLOW
Will Hughes tries to get Gerard Deulofeu in behind the defence with a measured through ball, but the Spaniard doesn't quite have the pace to latch onto it.
58'

BAILLY IN THE WAY
Bailly saves the day again, this time popping up in the perfect position to block a Richarlison cutback.
44'
WHAT A SAVE
Bailly gets caught flat-footed as a Darly Janmaat cross sails over and reaches Richarlison, who sees his downward header somehow clawed off the line by Sergio Romero.
41'
DODGY TOUCH
Sanchez tries to bring down another pinpoint chipped pass from Carrick, only for the former Arsenal man's touch to desert him at the crucial mmoment.
37'
CONFIDENCE FLOWING
That goal has visibly given United some confidence, and they're starting to finally dominate proceedings. The question has to be why a team of this standing would lack confidence.
34'
Goal
Marcus Rashford. Assist by Juan Mata (Manchester United)
34'
GOAL!!! MAN UNITED
Michael Carrick looks up in midfield and plays a perfect ball over the top for Juan Mata, who controls it with ease. The Spaniard lays it off for MARCUS RASHFORD to tap home from close range. A lovely moment for the retiring Carrick.
4'
DODGY TOUCH
For a moment Andre Gray looks like he might wriggle away from the attentions of Eric Bailly to burst through on goal, but a heavy touch allows the United defender to recover.
32'
ROJO GOES CLOSE
Jose Holebas gets his head to Rashford's cross but can only get it as far as Rojo, who controls the ball on the edge of the box and fires a dangerous half-volley not far wide.
28'
NOT A HAPPY MANAGER
Jose Mourinho is getting animated on the touchline, moving around much more than most of his players are doing. You can imagine the scathing post-match interview now.
24'
SLOW STUFF
The game is being played at a glacial pace. You can certainly tell it's the last day of the season without a lot to play for.
21'
Substitution
Adrian Mariappa (on). Christian Kabasele (off). (Watford)
21'
SUBSTITUTION
Right on cue, Adrian Mariappa is sent on for the stricken Kabasele.
9'
Yellow Card
Marcos Rojo (Manchester United)
20'
WOUNDED SOLDIER
Kabasele returns to the action, but he doesn't look happy. You wouldn't be surprised if a substitution was on the cards.
18'
KABASELE HURT
Christian Kabasele slides into the advertising hoardings after winning a full-blooded tackle, resulting in the defender requiring treatment off the pitch.
16'
WIDE FROM SANCHEZ
Juan Mata spots Alexis Sanchez making a clever run to the back post and clips in a cross, allowing the Chile forward to volley into the side-netting.
12'
NOWHERE NEAR
The hosts finally summon some attacking intent, but it's no more than a hopeful effort from Marcus Rashford, the England youngster sending his shot high and wide of the target.
10'
RICHARLISON OFF TARGET
Richarlison is the man to take the resulting free kick, but he makes a mess of it with a spooned shot that sails high over the crossbar.

WATFORD TEAM NEWS
Javi Gracia has made two changes to the side that beat Newcastle; Gerard Deulofeu replaces Etienne Capoue, who is absent for personal reasons, while up front Richarlison comes in for Troy Deeney. Nathaniel Chalobah makes the bench for the first time since recovering from a long-term knee injury, but Kiko Femenia, Andre Carrillo and Miguel Britos remain on the treatment table.

MAN UNITED TEAM NEWS
Only David de Gea, Scott McTominay and Alexis Sanchez survive from the team that drew with West Ham on Thursday; Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian come into defence, while in midfield Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Ashley Young are selected, with Michael Carrick playing alongside them as captain for the day. Marcus Rashford is handed a chance to impress in attack, standing in for Romelu Lukaku, who is absent with an ankle injury.

MANCHESTER UNITED V WATFORD
Manchester United confirmed their second-place finish in their previous game, so for them this afternoon's clash against Watford will be notable only for a farewell appearance by Michael Carrick, who will captain the side on his final professional outing. The outcome of the Hornets' season is far more variable; incredibly they could finish anything between tenth and 15th depending on how results go for the surrounding teams today. Considering United's lack of motivation and the increase in confidence that will stem from a first win in eight games over Newcastle last weekend, Javi Gracia's men are perfectly placed to seize the extra prize money on offer. Join me, Luke Ostler, at 3pm BST for all the action from Old Trafford.
57'
YELLOW CARD
Ashley Young picks up a booking for a blatant trip on Janmaat.
54'
FALSE DAWN
It turns out that was only a fleeting moment of glory for Watford, with Man United now passing the ball about with ease.
51'
HORNETS BUZZING
Watford are growing in confidence now and are peppering the home box with crosses.
49'
ALMOST AN OWN GOAL
Adrian Mariappa very nearly heads an Alexis Sanchez cross into his own net, and the defender is highly relieved to see it loop just over.
46'
SECOND HALF
The teams are back out and the second half is underway, with neither manager having made any changes at the break.
45'
CAPTAIN CARRICK MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
A tasty Marcus Rashford goal, in which Michael Carrick was heavily involved, broke the deadlock in a slow and ponderous first half. 33 minutes were on the clock when the veteran midfielder chipped a pass over the defence for Juan Mata, who cut the ball back for an easy finish for Rashford. Apart from that Marcos Rojo sent a half-volley just wide for United, while Richarlison almost equalised just before half time with a downward header that Sergio Romero somehow clawed off the line. Stay tuned for all the action after the break.
45'
HALF TIME MANCHESTER UNITED 1 WATFORD 0
We've reached the break here at Old Trafford, where Man United are leading Watford by a goal to nil.
45'
STRAIGHT AT THE KEEPER
Gerard Deulofeu takes aim from the edge of the box but can only shoot straight into the arms of Romero.
