Ecuador soundly beat Costa Rica by three goals to nil in a Group A game in Hamburg on Thursday. The goals came from Carlos Tenorio, Agustin Delgado and Ivan Kaviedes, sealing Ecaudor's place in the round of 16.Ecuador knew this was their best chance of booking an early ticket to the knockout round, and they started in the right earnest. Carlos Tenorio headed in Luis Valencia's cross, to give Ecuador the lead in the 8th minute. Ecuador were on song, and their Latin American neighbours had to wait until the 43rd minute to get their first shot at goal. Douglas Sequeira however muffed a great chance to head home from the far post.Ecuador at the other end had a great chance to make it two-nil just before half time, but Agustin Delgado failed to tap home a perfect cross from Edison Mendez. Delgado made amends for that miss nine minutes into the second half. His powerful shot went right through Costa Rican 'keeper Porras at the near post. Costa Rica had been completely outplayed, and the few chances they created led to feeble attempts at goal. Alvaro Saborio's 78th-minute effort summed up their day in the park. Ivan Kaviedes made a strong run in the 79th minute. But he failed to make it three for Ecuador, drilling his shot straight at Porras, who managed the save on the occasion. But Kaviedes was not to be denied a second time. The 29-year-old finished a superb move from the right by Ecuador, who joined Germany as the second team through to the last 16 from Group A.
