FIFA World Cup: Neymar Stars as Brazil Beat Croatia

Neymar netted a brace while Oscar scored once as Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 in their opening Group A match of the FIFA World Cup.

The hosts, chasing a record sixth World Cup, had also enjoyed a degree of good fortune in the first half when Neymar received only a yellow card for elbowing Croatia's playmaker Luka Modric.

Moments later Neymar scored Brazil's equaliser to settle home nerves after Marcelo's 11th-minute own goal.

Brazil was then awarded a disputed penalty in the 71st minute after striker Fred went down inside the area under light contact, and Neymar scored the winner from the spot.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar put the seal on the win with a late strike from distance to trigger delirium. The final scoreline read Brazil 3 Croatia 1.
