The Angel Di Maria drama continues. The Manchester United player is close to sealing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain but the clubs are yet to agree on a fee for the transfer.
The Argentine broke the British transfer record last season when Manchester United paid a £59.7m fee to Real Madrid. However, the move to off-load Di Maria to Parc des Princes will see United suffer a loss of almost £15m. The French champions have submitted a bid of £40m plus £5m on add-ons.
Although United have not confirmed the deal yet, it is understood that the club's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is in final negotiations and it would be quite a surprise if the Argentine international decides to stay back.
The speculations gathered momentum as Di Maria failed to join United's summer US tour.
Interestingly, Manchester United lost their last friendly against PSG 2-0 and their manager Louis van Gaal evaded questions about the 27-year-old's absence.
"I don't want to answer that but you can keep asking," said the Dutch coach, "may be you know where he is. I don't know."
On the other hand, the PSG coach Laurent Blanc sounded much optimistic about the deal going through.
"You know negotiations are ongoing and as Paris Saint-Germain and United are both big clubs, that can be difficult. But we feel we are close to the end", added the former French international.
