Alick Athanaze Profile

Alick Athanaze is a Dominican cricketer born on 7th December 1998 and could play a big role in the future to revolutionize West Indies cricket. He made his List A debut at the start of 2017 for the West Indies U-19 team in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Super50. Later that year, he was picked in the squad for the 2018 U19 Cricket World Cup and was the leading run-getter in the competition with 418 runs in six innings which resulted in him being dubbed the West Indies team's rising star by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He honed his skills and gained notoriety for his ball-striking prowess by playing local T20 and T10 events. He made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands towards the end of 2018 in the WICB Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament and had an impressive outing.

Athanaze has played for the West Indies A squad since 2022, most recently against Bangladesh A team. He had a successful campaign in the 2022-23 first-class season as he accumulated 647 runs in 10 innings including back-to-back centuries. Athanaze scored his first first-class hundred while captaining the Windward Islands against Guyana at the start of 2023. This performance brought him into contention for national selection as he was picked for the Test series against South Africa. He made his international debut in the ODI series against UAE midway through the year and scored the joint-fastest half-century on debut. He was picked for the Test squad against a visiting Indian side and with the potential he possesses, he could easily become a mainstay in the West Indies middle order for years to come.
