KKR struck early when they removed Shikhar Dhawan cheaply for 10.
Dhawan's poor form continued as SRH had gotten off to a shaky start.
Moises Henriques and David Warner steadied the ship by stitching a solid partnership.
However, Kuldeep Yadav broke the dangerous stand by dismissing Moises Henriques for 31.
In the very next ball, Yadav accounted for David Warner and SRH were stuttering at the half-way stage.
KKR were on top and it looked like they would restrict SRH to a below-par score.
However, Yuvraj Singh stepped up and took the attack to the KKR bowlers.
Yuvraj was in fine form but he missed out on a fifty as he was dismissed for 44.
Bipul Sharma struck a couple of sixes in the last over as Sunrisers Hyderabad finished on 162/8.
Chasing 163, KKR got off to a poor start as they lost Robin Uthappa cheaply.
Gautam Gambhir held fort as KKR made steady progress during the powerplay.
However, SRH's bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals and they never allowed KKR to gain momentum.
Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav struck some lusty blows but they could not get KKR close to the target.
Backed up by some excellent death bowling and brilliant fielding, Sunrisers Hyderabad eliminated Kolkata Knight Riders by registering a 22-run win to set up a virtual semi-final against Gujarat Lions.
