Pravin Tambe removed Kieron Pollard for 1 as Mumbai Indians were left reeling at 59/4.
Ambati Rayudu tried to revive the Mumbai Indians' innings but he departed for 20.
With Rayudu's dismissal, it seemed that Mumbai Indians would struggle to put up a big total.
However, Krunal Pandya, the elder brother of Hardik Pandya, was playing his first game and he stitched some crucial stands with the lower order.
Krunal shared a crucial 42-run stand with Tim Southee as Mumbai Indians fought back. Southee, in particular, smashed 25 off 11 balls.
Southee's cameo helped Mumbai Indians finish on 143/8, giving something for their bowlers to bowl at.
Defending 144, Southee opened the bowling and he troubled the Gujarat Lions openers with swing and bounce.
After the fall of Brendon McCullum, Finch held firm as he maintained a steady scoring rate.
Finch shared a 53-run stand with captain Suresh Raina as Gujarat Lions stayed on course.
Raina chipped in with 27 off 22 but once again he failed to convert a start as he was dismissed by Mitchell McClenaghan.
Jasprit Bumrah got the wicket of Dwayne Bravo and suddenly, Mumbai Indians had seized the initiative.
Mumbai Indians continued to take wickets at regular intervals as the game was evenly poised.
There was some anxious moments for the Gujarat Lions as Finch struggled with cramps and he struggled to run.
McClenaghan put on a fabulous show as he picked up two wickets in the 19th over to give Mumbai Indians a chance. He ended up with figures of 4/21 from his four overs.
However, with 11 needed off the last over, Finch maintained his composure and he struck a boundary off the last ball to give Gujarat Lions their third consecutive win. He ended up with 67*, to back up his earlier scores of 74 and 50.
This was the third consecutive victory for the Gujarat Lions as they continued to have an impressive showing in the IPL.
