Ronchi, who looked well set to get to his maiden Test ton, fell to Ravindra Jadeja to give India their first breakthrough of the day.
Mitchell Santner took on the responsibility and notched his maiden Test half-century.
Mohammed Shami then delivered a short, sharp spell of reverse-swing to remove BJ Watling and Mark Craig in quick succession.
Santner also lost his wicket soon to end New Zealand's hopes of saving the match.
Ish Sodhi, who hit two fours and a six in his innings of 17, became Ravichandran Ashwin's fifth victim. With this, the offie completed a five-wicket haul for the 19th time in Tests.
With the dismissal of Neil Wagner, India not only won their 500th Test match, but also registered their 88th Test victory at home.
India have now beaten New Zealand for the 19th time in Tests.
Jadeja was awarded the Man of the Match for his all-round show (92 runs and six wickets).
Virat Kohli will hope that his side continues to perform well and seal the series at Kolkata.
