That is it from this game! The 2nd T20I between Zimbabwe and Pakistan will be played on 23rd April, 2021. Do join us for that at 1100 local (0900 GMT). Till then, take care and cheers!
Babar Azam, Pakistan skipper, says that he is happy with the victory. Adds that the wicket was a bit two-paced and it was tricy. Mentions that you have to play the short ball well. Further says that Mohammad Rizwan's innings was crucial for them.
Mohammad Rizwan is named the Man of the Match. He says that the pitch was tricky. Adds that Zimbabwe took advantage of the toss. Mentions that the conditions in Zimbabwe are not easy and the ball does not come easily on the bat. Further says that the target set by them was a good total.
Sean Williams, Zimbabwe skipper, says that they dropped some catches which cost them the game. Adds that they need to improve their fielding. Mentions that the partnership between Ervine and Madhevere was crucial. Further says that they missed the second partnership which was needed. Williams also says that it was their game but they let it slip away. Ends by saying they will go back to the drawing board and improve better in the next game.
Tinashe Kamunhukamwe is down for an interview. He says that the batsmen did not apply themselves. Adds that we did not execute our plans. Mentions the bowlers did well to restrict Pakistan but the batsmen went for too many big shots. Further says that they should avoid losing quick wickets and build partnerships. Kamunhukamwe says they will look to improve in the next game and come back stronger.
For Pakistan, Hasnain was brilliant to begin with! However, he lacked support from the other end. The others took a pounding a true start especially Qadir but he came back strongly and he was in the end the one who got the crucial wickets. Overall, it was yet another good performance by Pakistan in this format.
After losing two early, Ervine and Tinashe got them back into the chase with a quick fire stand. That partnership was a lot more about Ervine than the opener. Once the opener fell though, the procession started and it kept getting tough for Zimbabwe. Jongwe did revive his team’s hopes with a few big hits. But the task was a big one.
A hard fought win in the end for Pakistan! To be honest, Zimbabwe will feel they did have their chances of winning this one.
