Right then, that’s all from us for now. Be sure to join us again on Saturday, July 26th, for the all-important Grand Final of the Tri-Series, as New Zealand face South Africa once more, right here at the Harare Sports Club. The action kicks off at 11:00 AM GMT, and as always, we’ll be with you well before that with all the pre-match build-up and analysis. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Mitchell Santner, the captain of New Zealand says the batters did the job for them on a tricky wicket. Reckons they have done well throughout the series as different players have stepped up at different times. Mentions they have a massive game in a couple of days, they know what South Africa have and will be ready to execute the plans. Tells Ish Sodhi had a new role today and his wickets put them in a good position.
Ish Sodhi wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD. He says it was a great win and nice to contribute to the team. Tells he had a new role to bowl in the Powerplay. Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell have done it previously, so it was good for him to bowl in the Powerplay. Mentions he tried to bowl in the right areas and hoped the wickets would keep on coming.
Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Zimbabwe says the wicket gets better in the second innings but they made the same mistake while batting and dug holes for themselves. Tells they dropped some crucial wickets, which hurt them overall. Feels, despite it being a dead rubber, he'll speak to the players and say it's never a dead rubber for Zimbabwe. Mentions that he is looking forward to the next series, which will feature many experienced players returning.
...Presentation....
Earlier, New Zealand opted to bat first! They suffered an early blow with the dismissal of Tim Robinson, but Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert steadied the innings superbly by registering a 108-run stand for the second wicket. Both fell and New Zealand were in tatters for a while as they lost a couple of more wickets but Michael Bracewell ensured they ended on a high as his innings of 26 off 16 balls gathered a lot of momentum back.
Zimbabwe struggled throughout the chase to build a partnership. Tony Munyonga looked good for his 40 but just when he started to accelerate, Ish Sodhi came back to roll the dice for the final time and got the big wicket to put the game to bed. New Zealand had the runs to play with, more than enough actually, on a wicket which was not easy to bat on. However, credit to their bowlers as they executed their plans perfectly. Ish Sodhi was the pick for his four-fer.
Zimbabwe have fallen once again! That's four consecutive losses for the hosts and they end the Tri-Series with a sorry-looking performance. For the first time, they were chasing a score in this series. The first couple of overs were good for them but New Zealand realised the pitch was on the slower side and brought in Ish Sodhi straightaway, who didn't wait long to break the stand. He went on to dismiss the top three however, the big heartbreak for Zimbabwe was the wicket of Sikandar Raza who was dismissed cheaply.
